Back in the age when dragons soared,
There was a man whose heart did roar.
For a young lady who he knew,
With whom in his dreams he flew.
She sent him on a quest to gain her hand in marriage;
to ride into the world, and retrieve a golden carriage,
pulled by dragons, the most proud species of all,
creatures that would not come to his call.
So out the lad rode, on his faithful horse,
to see someone who could determine his course.
On the tallest mountain in the land,
he met a man who ancient spirits he could command.
After riding the winding trail up the snowy cliff,
he could glimpse the igloo at the base of a snow drift.
Upon entering the wiseman's cave,
he was greeted by a young girl slave;
She begged him to release her from her chains,
so she could help him search the vast plains.
alas, all her pleas were in vain;
he knew that it would cause the old man pain.
Jared (For that was his name) entered the man's chambers,
and the prophet he met said,
"You will travel far and wide,
in search of a carriage pulled by dragon hide.
Along the way, you will meet a new friend,
and your heart will be changed by the end.
And Jared asked,
"But where should I go?
How will I know?"
The wiseman replied,
"Allow your heart to lead;
It alone knows the setting of this great deed."
With these last words, his lips were shut;
he transformed into the shape of a mutt.
"Remember my words, young Jared the best,"
The beast did growl,
"They will help you on this arduous quest."
With these last words, the beast did leave,
abandoning Jared to midnight's eve.
Letting the slave girl join his protection,
the two took off in an Easternly direction.
To the land of his father's decent,
to decipher what the message meant.
On they rode, through day and night,
choosing to flee rather than fight.
As they neared their destination,
Jared felt an odd sensation.
Leading the horse down an overgrown path,
he was surprised by the sudden blood bath.
On the ground lied a dying dragon,
next to it lay a hunter smashed into a wagon.
With the beast's final actions of it's life,
the dragon indicated with great strife;
to take her dragon child away,
so it could live another day.
Jared obeyed the mother's last wish,
and found the child, eating some fish.
Scooping in into his pack, the two set off;
Many who saw them did scoff.
When Jared met his relatives at last,
they were delighted by fate's cast.
To have a relative married so young,
to gossip about on their tongues.
The family gave a golden carriage,
to aid him in his quest for marriage.
As he returned to see his bride,
a revelation struck him inside.
This woman was asking so much,
yet flinched away on the touch.
After much deliberation inside his mind,
the proper answer he did find.
He sold that beautiful, golden carriage,
and asked the slave for her hand in marriage;
forever happy did they live,
eternal happiness did they give.

- Description: This is a pretty long poem, about a man's quest for marriage. Please let me know what I messed up on, since this is the first time I've ever tried to really write medievalish.
