It was a cold night and the streetlights were dim
She was walking alone
No sign or trace of him
It was such a late hour, that not even the night-shifters were out Everyone was home
And she was all alone
Then out of the night, came a shadow
One with a tricky demise
It appeared right before the girl Giving her quite a surprise
The girl, not knowing what to do Moved away from the shadow at hand
So it held out its palm in front of her
Still she deemed confused
Silent was the shadow
Not telling her what to do
So the girl ignored its presence
And continued on her way
Just like she did the important things
That came about her day
Another night, quite some time later
She came upon a mime
Cold and lonely, on the road
Begging for a few dimes
And this puzzled the girl, for how could a mime be a beggar?
And expressed this confusion to the mime
And he just smiled and turned
Not wanting to waste her time
The girl was upset that he wouldn't explain
In her arogance she forgot he was mute
But later, back at home
She thought again of this dispute And realized then, why the mime was a beggar
He was silent
Never spoke a word
And yet everyone paid attention And that was because we, as people
Focus on those things
That aren't important or loud
But when it comes to extreme matters
We fade into the crowd
And the girl began to cry
As she remebered all the things Things she should've done right Things she instead, ignored
Because it brought to much attention to her
The girl then changed her life
She was never again dismissing
And when she saw people
Pushing away their troubles
She thought of what they were missing
This world is filled with
Shadows and Mimes
Those giving and taking in silence
And we, as people should recognize this
Even if it will break our own silence
