Chapter 5 - It begins
"What is that?" I asked when Thaniel came out of the kitchen half an hour later. The tray he was carrying bore some sort of meat entre and two side....well, they looked like salad, but did that really exist in an alternate reality?
"It's called chanley with a honey and raisin glaze," Thaniel said, setting the tray down. "Then there's the green leaves of palo with honey the cream sauce." He handed me bowl of the palo. "Don't you have this in your world?"
I shook my head. "I've never heard of a chanely or palo....." I took a bite out of it and was overcome with a strange feeling. I stomach was instantly filled with a glowing warmth that spilled throughout my body. My very fingers seemed to glow with a sunshiney warmth. I looked at Thaniel.
"Wow," I said.
"What?" He asked, taking a bite out of his own palo.
"That was....wow."
"What?"
"I feel all.....warm and fuzzy inside....." I took another bite out of it and was hit with the same feeling, just not as intense.
"yeah, the first bite of the cream sauce can be a bit intense. It was mum's secret thing."
I finished eating the food with a kind of rapture. It didn't taste much different from a salad, except everything had this warm kind of taste. If warmth could have a taste anyways. It slid down real easy and seemed to taste sweet, but not quite. It was really interesting. Everytime I thought i'd figured out the stuff, it hit me with another taste.
When I was finished, I glanced at Thaniel. He had a small smile on his face.
"What?" I asked, thinking that I had it on my face or something else mortifying.
"Nothing," he said, dishing out the Chanley. "Be careful with this stuff. If you thought the Honey cream sauce was intese, this will make you have a giggle attack."
I laughed at the thought, then took a small bite. The same sensation overwhelmed me, making everything seem so much happier. Everything seemed to glow with an inner light. My own body was radiating a golden glow. A laugh slipped out of my mouth and i tryed to muffle it. Thaniel's face was smiling, even though his own chanley remained untouched.
"I was expecting something like that," He said, taking a bite. He closed his eyes for a second, then seemed to radiate a faint grey glow. It was like smoke was surrounding him, and with each bite, it became more and more pronounced.
My glowy feeling evaporated quite quickly.
"What?" He asked, glancing at my face.
"Uh, do you normally.....glow?"
He quirked an eyebrow.
"I mean....well, it's not really a glow, more of a fog.....but it's like....." I waved my hands at his body, hoping he's see it.
He looked down at his hand. Those beautiful eyes widened a bit as he raised his hands up infront of his face. Something in his body seemed to tense up a bit.
"Huh. I don't think that's very good."
"Not good? what do you mean not good?"
He gave a quick glance down at his food, then at me. "Keep eating, hun."
I quirked my own eyeborw. "Why?"
"i just need to see something. I promise you won't die or anything."
I took another bite out of my food and the glowing sensation exploded int my body. The Glow that had been moving about my body before was nothing compared to this. It was as if my every cell was glowing with an ferouscious light. Every molecule of my body radiated like the sun, giving off a golden glow of sun and happiness. I looked at my own hands and sure enough, it was noticable. It was like i'd swallowed the sun and was now the source of all light, all energy, all happiness. Fear tryed to clog my throat, but the warmth seemed to dissolve it. Something about this was right.
"Huh" was all Thaniel could say.
I widened my eyes at him.
"Huh? huh is all you have to say!?!?!"
He shrugged. "I guess that means you can't have any more chanley."
I gave a bitter laugh and continued to stare at my hands. I wanted desparately to be scared, but the glow seemed to kill off every negative feeling I held on the inside. Fear? Gone. Desparation? Gone. Everything, gone. It was like I could feel nothing but happiness. Goodness, everything that made up the good in life.
"Beth is going to be excited," Thaniel said.
I laughed agian and was overcome with the urge to kiss Thaniel again. I'd even started to lean foreward a bit when my brain kicked in.
Stupid, what are you doing?
I stood up and walked over to the window and stared out of it. I heard Thaniel gather the dishes and bustle off. My passion to feel fear continued to battle the sunshine that radiate from my every pore. I wanted to cry from frustration, yet laugh at the sillyness of it. I wanted to scrape away my skin, make the glow dissapear, and at the same time, i wanted to go outside and bask in the radiance of the sun.
Thaniel came up behind me, putting his arms around my waiste.
"Don't be scared," He whispered.
"I wish i could be scared," I said.
Nuzzling my neck he murmurred, "This is what's supposed to happen."
I laughed again. "You do realize you don't even know my name, right?"
He bit me gently, causing me to shudder. "Vivian. You prefer to be called ivi."
I turned slowly and looked at him. "How do yo u know that? I didn't tell any of you..."
He smiled at me gently. "Just trust me, Ivi." Puling me closer, he whispered, "Trust me."
I was sent into another breath stealing, spine tingling kiss from the god of sexiness.
At least untill someone was pounding on the door.
"I know you are in there! Open this ******** door right now, Thaniel, or the two of you are in even deeper s**t!"
