Riley dropped the reciever, letting it dangle over the small wooden table, letting Mrs.Paolini dangle, her voice now more shocked than before. "Riley?! RILEY?!" Riley broke out of the trance she had once been in. She felt like s**t, and this was definatly not what she had wanted to hear. She picked up the reciever and said, "Goodbye Mrs. Paolini, I need to...go, go and lie down." "I think I need to too." There was a click on the other line as the phone went dead. Riley walked stiffly to her bedroom and silently shut her door.
The warm, yellow sunshine flooded through the huge windows opposite her bed. She pulled the covers above her head and moaned. Morings were a pain in a**. She hated them, especially at her mother's house. For some reason everything was always worse in america than in Italy. The sun wasn't bright enough, the flowers weren't as pretty, the rain was colder. But the snow, that was worth the trip. To make a snowangel or, or go sledding, ice-skating, you name it Viviana loved to do it. Winter was her favorite time of the year. She was able to spend time with her sister Amelia, her favorite person in the world! And open presents under a gigantic christmas tree, all lit up with reds and greens, and blues, and oranges. She had spent the whole day snowboarding with her sister yestreday and today Amelia promised to take her ice-skating out on Lover's Pond. She knew that last night Amelia had snuck out to meet her boyfriend Louis pretty late last night, so she was proababley still asleep. Viviana decided to sneak up on her sister. She crept out of her room, only to find an empty bed and her mother's tears. "Where's Amelia?!" She gasped. Her face froze in horror as her mother looked up at her, mouth pulled into a snarl, "You. You did this!! Just like with your father! Your the reason why she's gone!!! You and your talk about having so much freedom out in Italy!!" Her mother stood up and shook her. "WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU!!!!!!" Than the phone rang. It rang loudly in the ears of Viviana and her mother. Mrs. Paolini rushed to the phone. "D-Did you find her?!" She wrapped the cord around her index finger, nervously. Her expression was no longer angry, but terrified. As the conversation went on with the mysterious person on the other end, her expression changed from terror to depression. Tears whispered down her smooth, angelic cheeks. "Thank you." She put the reciever down and sat on the couch staring out into space, tears spilling down her cheeks, "No parent ever wants to outlive their child."
