The argument that they are pixel items is perfectly valid and here's why.

Because they are. They are not people they are not children they are not slaves they are static pixel items. Extra paper dolls if you will to be added to your own virtual paper doll.

All of a sudden people have problems with selling "items" because they are kids. Well let's examine shall we. Gaiaonline already has an ITEM that is people. And a BABY that can be sold as well. Is it just human babies that are worthy of our RIGHTEOUS MORALISTIC OUTRAGE?

Add to that the very great number of people in this world who believe selling animals is wrong. Or the laws that say having exotic pets is wrong (because it generally means a black market trade of animals ripped from their native environments and shipped in abysmal conditions where many of them die). And yet surprise! I can buy a puppy or a snake from any willing Gaian.

To expound further it is not Gaia who is trading or selling these items. They are selling adoption certificates. If your teenage idealistic indignation can be toned down for just a moment to realize that other users are SELLING their own ITEMS. That these items happen to be people is completely secondary.

Did everyone think that gaiaonline would exist in perpetuity without giving you the option of adding various other PEOPLE to your avatar? I mean we already have so many varied animals and plushies and god knows what else to accompany us.

If we continue along with the idea that Gaia is anime based, SUPER CUTE KAWAII CHILD SIDEKICKS abound in anime and make perfect sense to incorporate on just that note alone. But if we also take into account that Gaia is RP based, well there could be all sorts of reasons that necessitate another person combined with your avatar. Representation of NPC characters, sisters, brothers, daughters, etc. And therefore ALSO makes perfect sense to have created this item.

The orphan items make perfect since. And they are items. Items that REPRESENT a child. Not an actual child. And the arguements regarding slavery and black markets are entirely, totally specious. And that is being gracious.
