I'm pretty sure most of you know.
I love Coheed & Cambria. Alot.
Once you get past Claudio Sanchez's squealing pig whore vocals, they grow on you.
Starting out as Shabutie and covering songs by popular metal acts and some of their original stuff, they became Coheed & Cambria and by the guidance of the band's lead singer, Claudio Sanchez, they have released a total of four albums, one of them being an awesome live album, these guys are headed for success.
Most of you may not be familar with the 'Heed and will probably shy away from the shrieking vocals and the semi-violent lyrics, there's more to this band than Iron Maiden influences and hair.
Oh yes, the story. One of the perks of Coheed & Cambria is that not only will you be listening to face shattering music, you get a story as well. All the albums tell the story of the couple Coheed & Cambria (Whom the band is named after) and their children. Their first album, Second Stage Turbine Blade is actually the second part of the story, throwing you right into the action. Coheed is injected with a virus called The Monstar which has the power to either destroy the universe or restore it but, The Monstar is completely evil, turning Coheed into the shell for The evil Monstar. Later on they murder all their kids but one, Claudio, who is asked by the Prize (Angelic Figure) Ambellina to help save the universe. Several other characters are introduced like Jesse, the Prize Winner Inferno and my favorite, Al the Killer who happens to enjoy killing white girls. The songs can be grotesque and violent, but you'll often find yourself trying to figure out what Claudio is saying or trying to keep up with the guitars.
That leads me to the title of this entry, "The band for everyone's inner comic book geek." After going to several Comic Coliseums, Electronic Boutiques and other hobby oriented stores, several people have heard about Coheed & Cambria and enjoy them fully. Why? Well kids, Claudio is infact, a comic book geek. And he writes like one. The story of Coheed & Cambria can often times be complicated and hard to connect together, and there's alot of detail to it that may seem insignificant, but adds a whole lot to the story. Also, the band doesn't want to hand you something predictable so you'll often times find yourself in the dark having to try to come up with your own translation of the lyrics or even your own story. It's fun through and through kids!
Be sure to get their new album, the 20th of this month!
I give this band, a four snobs, out of five.
Check in later when I review other popular bands!
