So I found out in late May early June that the tags for the car was due and paid them. The found out that the window tags were due in March. I was use to my old thunderbird which was due in May.
Anyways, the car failed the Emission test ($33.75) and so I could not get a sticker, but I could for a month drive with the failed report (and not get a ticket for not having a updated sticker) and have 30 days to get the car worked on.
So I saved a lot, well $400 for me is a lot in four weeks. Considering the fact that I get paid about that much every two weeks I really saved. ßNo out to eat at work.
The two things that failed was a O2 senor and EGR valve giving insufficient air flow into the engine. Which causes the “Check Engine” light to be on.
Well, they fixed the O2 thing ($182.76), but did not do the other thing, nor checked the sheet that stated the other issue. When new car part is in the car the car must be driven 30miles before being able to get the sticker to see if the ’Check Engine’ light comes back up. It did.
After the third time the light came back on they asked me to keep the car over night. They replace the O2 senor, extra $30, to no help. Then they looked at the sheet that I had and said, “Oh, it has another issue right here. That’s might be why the light is still on.”
Now for where I live if you do a repair of $200 on your car then you can get a waiver and have a year to fix any other issues. By then my inspection had been two days over the time on the last inspection($32).
I had to drive to the DMV in downtown. The stoplights were out on the street I had to turn into so I had to do a lot of special driving to try to get to the place. Only to be then sent over to NC State area to a special DMV place.
My car had no A/C.
The papers for the first fixed issue and the extra $30 add up to over $200. Yet, $30 sheet had diagnostic and did not specify the issue. So I went back to the car place. The owner was not feeling well and left early so I was asked to come back tomorrow,
The next day I was able to get a new copy of the $30 invoice that had ‘EGR valve inspected’ Went back down to the place near NC state and got he waiver. Though, I had to wait the next day to get the sticker, they had just closed shop.
So when I go the sticker ($6.50) I asked about the other issue and they said come back when I wanted to get it fixed. Decided to do it the next day.
To fix the EGR valve and cleaning the area was $358.01. So I am thing alright now the light will stay off. It did not.
However, classes are next week and classes come to about $600. Add in books and I just don’t have the funds to have them mess with my car any more.
I’ve cleaned out my dollar coin collection, I had about $230 and cleaned out my savings $295 (Balance is now $5.80) plus the little in my checking ($35) I can make my classes, now I just have to wait for a seat to become open in the ones I want.
Good news, my mother is letting me pay her $70 for car insurance next week. I am starting to pay off my student loan ($50 a month) and I have paid this weeks phone bill.
I am a very lucky bug. I did not have to give the bank my $40 in two dollar bills. Nor, my $10 in drummer quarters and other odd coins that I like.
Also, last week I found three silver dimes that look like crap, but still silver. Not to mention the next day got a silver quarter. My tips have been nice (yesterday eight dollars and on Monday TEN!!) this week I am not touching my checking account so I can register online fast when a class is available. So all the tips are going for gas.
Oh, on the quest for a better job, I have to set up an interview with a job counselor at my school to help look for local jobs.
