The first thing I hear after walking in the doors of the room is Sena's soft voice. "There is no way we are leaving today! We aren't ready for departure. Adease won't approve of such a request!"
Making sure to not make my presence known so I can listen, I hear Kunit's rough voice yell, "Master Adease has no say in the matter! No developments have made themselves known. On our far reaches we have Gis spies ready. We can't let..."
In an attempt to cut him off before he finishes his sentence, I jump in saying, "Gis spies? Seems like the usually pay off, what makes it so imporant that we move out now? We haven't learned everything yet. We need another week."
"A week you shall not have! This isn't the normal amount! It is much more! They are planning something and you need to move out!"
Hoping to shed some light, Glorin jumps in and adds, "Lord Kunit, one week won't hurt anyone. They aren't stupid enough to invade with just spies while we are defended so heavily."
"Glorin," Kunit replies, "I appreciate what you're doing, but we need to cut a path and head straight to Gismia. If we don't and we fall all of Gisum will be doomed!"
In pure anger or what Lord Kunit is demanding, all I could muster out is, "We leave now then, we can't sit here and let them get closer. Men prepare." We aren't ready to head in. Crossing Desful won't be an easy task. After the bombings Desful as killed any strangers on site. They don't want to risk it.
I guess I finally get to test out this blade of mine. Lets see how good it works. This journey will be long though, hopefully father found a good maker. The sword will go through a lot of fighting. Months worth. We will probably encounter battle before we make it out of Loc'Sharie.
"Sena, at least you made it! Oh and you got everyone! Well... I'm not good at these speeches but we need a motivational one so let's try this. Men, Sena! We may not be prepared in knowledge for what is happening, but we have the skills for it! How long have we trained getting ready for this moment to leave? Years! Expect heavy resistance before we even make it to Desful! But do not expect to fall! We are a team, we are a family, and most importantly, we are the hope for everyone we love!"
Tubase's deep voice was easily picked up from the team's cheers, "Master Adease, you did good on that. Better than I thought. He is right guys, we can do this no matter how much a challenge!" Tubase as second in command has some skill in the matter so I expected his to beat mine.
The quiet Wetniol spoke, which is rare, "Can we please leave. This is boring. My blade's hunger for battle. They are dehydrated of blood."
With that, no one said a word. We mounted our horses and left. This is going to be a challenge that none of us has faced, but we will overcome it.
We made it the Damper Forest, the largest and darkest forest in all of Loc'Sharie. It was a feat to make it here without a fight. I expected to see some spies. Until I hear a familiar sound; explosion after explosion all around us. This brought back memories of my mom. Which is definitely not what they want. Our task force was in battle position before I could ask what was happening.
Obviously they didn't try to hit us, they made a circle of smoke around us. Through the smog I could see a series of Gis soldiers walking towards us. It was a triangle formation, their leader no doubt the point that was the leader.
Should I take a glance at Wetniol? He is the most likely to attack. He may be quiet but on the battle field he is unmatched. I risked it, saw him too eager to fight, something that made me happy.
Sena grabbed my hand and whispered in my ear, "Don't get distracted. Don't get worried. You are the youngest and our leader, they will go after you. Master Adease, I will not let them get to you, I promise." After that she vanished. She has always been stealth-like.
Tubase grabbed out his heavy two-handed sword and stared at me, then towards the invaders. Without another word, I grabbed the gift from my father. I was shocked when I looked at it. It wasn't plain anymore. It was glowing red but at the same time I saw blue. Writing also appeared on it, writing of the ancients. My father didn't lie. This blade would save us.
Still in awe with my blade, their leader's voice surprised me. It was a girl! "So you were sent to handle us? Unlikely, there is a whole team of us, and 5 of you. Please, just give up, you're actually kind of cute. Weird your little friend go? There was 5, now 4?"
"Do not speak to me, leave this land at once or die!" I was purely enraged now. The sword certainly gave me strength. "I don't want your scum on my land! It is bad enough to have to enter yours, but to have it on mine, I need to clean the trash up."
"No kind words from the young one? Wait, you're the leader, that is so... surprising." Hesitantly she looked around again, then back at me. With a crooked smile on her face and an excited tone to her voice, she said, "This, my friends, my brother in arms, will be fun! Leave the young one for me, slaughter the rest."
Before I could react, arrows came flying from within the smoke.
