Damn it, i can't believe my luck. Stuck home with no where to go. I made the mistake of going home for christmas and the next thing i know, I've been reprogramed. If i leave this house i'll shut down, virtual house arrest.
To make matters worse i'm stuck with my younger sister. She insists on prancing around the house in a little pink dress, with her hair done all perfect. The brat. The worst part is, is that she'll never grow up, she'll be six forever. I can already hear her calling from the other room wanting a story.
"Will you tell me a story please?" She pleads, tugging gently on my shirt, "i want a story!"
"No. You can make up a story on your own." I tell her coldly. It's true, she has access to all the same resources i do. She sat there for a minute before nodding, "okay but you have to listen!"
Resigned i nod, it's the best deal i'm going to get.
"once upon a time," She starts seating herself cross legged on the floor, "there was a woman and a man. They worked for the king, in his army and they did a good job. They fought next to each other for a really long time and one day they fell in love. This didn't bother the king, until they ran away.
"When the king found out that they had dissapeared, he was mad. He blamed the woman for disobeying orders. So, he ordered his best soldiers to seak them out and bring back the man but not the woman.
The soldiers chased the woman and the man for many years, all over the world but the two were always one step ahead. But one day the woman had children and she and the man decided to buy a house and live together far away.
"that's when the soldiers found them, and true to their orders they brought the man back to the king and they sent the woman and her children away to different places.
"The man had no choice but to work for the king and so he did, always wondering when the woman would come back. After a long time, the king told the man that the woman had died and that she was never coming back. This made the man so sad for so long that eventually he stopped feeling anything else and when the sadness went away, he was dead too. Only he was dead on the inside.
"The king had lied though, the woman was still alive and still looking for the man. Eventually, she found him but by then it was too late. He had changed his name and changed his life and he didn't want her anymore. So, the woman left and went back home. She was sad because she had lost everything, and now there was nothing left. The woman was sad for a long time but she never stopped feeling things, no matter how hard she tried. So now, the woman only tries to forget but in the end she never will."
Violet smiled up at me, waiting for my reaction. I choke on my words and find myself crying. satisfied she skips away, happy to have made me remember, all the things i tried so hard to forget.
