Respect? A forty year old told me I don’t have enough respect for my elders I smiled and thanked her for her opinion And walked away
Later when I talked to her in my head I managed to let loose what I really thought Of course, it is easier to be cutting to your imagination
Respect?! Should I show respect for dogs too? Well, actually, make that a worm Even a dog has it’s moments of loyalty and empathy But worms slurp about, eat, and do whatever And get themselves dried up on the sidewalk Whenever the rain comes
In fact, all you elders are a lot like worms Digging around to no real end Always in the dark and blind
Your daughters call me at 3am About the baby they don’t want to have Because nine months from now you are going to throw them out No child of yours was raised that way- of course not. Your sons tell me about the drinking and smoking they’ve done Since they were sixteen You are just afraid to see That your negligence makes us want to die
Sure you grew up in the age when people drank out of the same can of pop Sure you grew up when playing outdoors and not on the ps3 was the thing Sure you grew up with radio and not ipods Sure you grew up in an age different from ours But you are the ones that helped sculpt the this time into what it isn’t You are the ones that forbid the sharing of pop because of the germs You are the ones that can’t let your child go out of doors because of the murderer down the street Let the game system entertain and raise your kid because you are at work, that’s ok
But just realize, that we have no connection to you We connect to each other To get away from you You are so blind
And when it rains When you call needing that $50 for gas When you want to come over and have my thanksgiving dinner The $300 for the power bill $800 for rent I don’t know why I don’t leave worms on the sidewalk to dry
