The media, in all its various forms, is one of the most vital tools of communication in our current society. Television broadcasts, radio, and more increasingly, the internet have fundamentally changed the lives of billions of people the world over. Never before has the media controlled so much of what people know or don’t know. This power that the media has needs to be controlled with the utmost care, for fear of breeding an ill-informed and ignorant audience.

This difficult responsibility is why I feel that I should join the broadcast team. Being part of the broadcast team means that you must show great levels of self-control and perseverance. It is the purpose of the broadcast team to effectively make sure that the viewers know what they need to know. If the student body is not properly informed, then the broadcast team has failed at their job. The Wolfcast is a crucial part of our day, and as such, needs people who care about informing others. It gives me great pleasure to know that I will be helping my peers and friends by taking this class.

The broadcast team has to learn to work together and get things done. Working in groups is a great way to get ready for real-world situations, and I feel that it is a vital part of my education. Working in groups is a way that I enjoy working, and negotiating and compromising is something that I feel I am gifted at. Also, I have been increasingly interested in digital graphics for the past few years. I know that this class will allow me to put my knowledge of photoshop and video editing software to good use. Speaking in front of people is something that I like to do, so being an anchor-woman would be fun for me. I prefer having deadlines because it challenges me to work well quickly, and compels me to do a better job. I enjoy classes that push me to my limit, because it is how I learn and grow best.

Being part of the broadcast team is both a responsibility and a privilege. If I am given this privilege, you can be sure that I will act responsibly, that I will get things done, and that I will work alongside my peers harmoniously in order to make next year a fun and memorable one.

Thank you for your consideration!
