I dont know why people would think this isnt great. I think its a great thing to study other styles.
I believe its good(and a relief) to see other styles put out there besides manga style. (and just because its not manga style doesnt mean its not good)

- I must say you are brave to attempt to mimic artwork that hasn't been around almost 1 1/2 centuries. It is fascinating how cartoonists used to draw, especially from a foreign culture like England. Make a drawing of the oldest anime ever. The oldest anime was "The Grandfather that Made the Flowers Bloom". It was a silent movie made in August 1917. There are no copies of the movie made.

- I did the best I could with this character. I was searching all over Wikipedia, trying to challenge myself to draw the oldest cartoon characters I could find. This is a character from the British papers that hasn't been seen since the 1860's. I was trying to draw in the style Mr. Ross at the time had him. I colored him to fit in with our modern world.
