Secrets
Part 1
by Imagineanime
It was a dark and cold night in New York, in the yea 1857. The night was also silent; silent that is until pounding footsteps on the hard pavement broke the peaceful silence. Those footsteps were attached to a man that, running as fast as he could, every once in a while glancing back behind him. Though there was nothing but darkness behind him, but he was running with purpose, he was running with fear.
Unlike a man who would risk everything and stand and face this fear even if he would never live another moment again, this man was running away from his home, his family, and his fear, which was slowly catching up to him. His home was miles away now from his footsteps so there was no going back. But even now quickly running out of breath the man ran down University Street, while looking for a safe place to rest, for even a moment, he could hear the past screams of his wife and child.
But time for that was ticking by quickly, and there was no time to think about that. For the more this man ran, the more his fear came upon him. Finally he had to stop. He first paused in the middle of the dew-coved street, putting all of his weight on his hands, which was on his knees. After a few deep breaths, he shifted his wait to the left and dragged himself into a bookshop on the side of the street. It did not matter weather or not it was safe he needed to rest for a moment.
Once he was inside he collapsed on a short, old, bookshelf. After a few hard deep breaths of exhaustion, he froze. He heard heavy, inhuman, feet step onto the pavement just outside the bookshop. A chill went down his spine as he slowly adverted his eyes from the wooden floor, to the feet of what he was running from this whole time, to the feet of a monster. He could hear it breathing deep and heavily. This fear that was right in front of him, the fear that drove him to exhaustion, this fear that made him freeze. He could hear it move, for every step it took the floor moved as if a miniature earthquake accrued.
But then, before he could get up from crouching by the bookshelf, his fear walked into the room. It growled once he saw the man, the man could feel it’s hot breath in his face.
The man gazed at this creature. Its long tangled hair covered its whole body, almost like fur. Aside from shadows all the man could really see was emerald eyes of this creature. The eyes looked hungry and searching. The man clenched his fist around his small brown leather bag that was attached to his pants.
“Torrent,” the man quietly grunted as he got up to head level to what he called Torrent. Then he saw shadow of Torrent show bright, white, and large teeth. The teeth looked like the beast recently killed. For the teeth had some dark red bloodstains as well as some fresh blood on them. The man shivered at the sight, not wanting to think of whom the kill had been.
“Give me the power,” the beast growled. Torrent stepped in deeper into the shop.
The man winced slightly. “No Torrent, you’ll just ruin the lives of people. Besides I don’t have it, and no one will be able to have it,” the man said clenching harder on his grip on the bag even more.
“I know you have it Gabriel,” Torrent smirked at the name. Gabriel tightened his grip.
“There is magic, dark magic within you creatures” said Gabriel. Torrent growled more but Gabriel continued. “There may not be any magic in me” he pause then grinned not afraid of anything anymore. “But I do have talents,” then in one quick movement Gabriel took out what was in the leather bag of his.
In the bag were four gemstones, in which Gabriel had them in his, had now. These gems, though, were pitch black for coal powder covered them. Torrent smiled with pleasure at the sight. But his smile slowly faded once he saw what Gabriel’s talent was. Gabriel closed his eyes and opened the palm of his hand leaving the gems easy to snatch. But Torrent did not dare move.
As a minute passed the four gemstones started floating up from Gabriel’s hand as they went up the coal powder started disincarnating leaving behind the true color of the gems. They went ad high as Gabriel’s forehead. Once the gems stopped moving, Gabriel slowly opened his eyes, and then both of them could see three small dark purple gems that looked almost deadly, as well as one large green gem.
Torrent snarled, getting impatient of the time that passed. But still he did not move from his spot. Gabriel smiled, “ so you do know what these are.” Then, as if being held back and to long, Torrent crouched down on all fours and pounced onto Gabriel, letting out a large growled. With his mouth wide open and everything. Showing more of his white, blood stained teeth. But before he slashed Gabriel, he bumped into all of the four gems making them glow a bright purple and green light all across the room. But neither Gabriel nor Torrent noticed. For Torrent had surrendered to his full nature, killing uncontrollable, with his victim, Gabriel, almost smiling as he saw the gems slightly faded to transparent colors.
But once he was done Torrent searched for the gems. But once he found them they had turned black again, but this time not because of coal. With his very last moment with this sight Gabriel smiled a complete victorious smile before he died. The last thing that was heard that night was an angry howl in that bookshop in the night. And the absolutely last thing that happened that night was the gems disappearing into the night air, away from one’s clutches.

- Be careful with the structure of the wording and stuff. Mistakes like that could cripple the value of a true masterpiece.
