CH 7: Night at the Hospital
-
Delsus woke to the sounds of beeping and to the feeling of his hair being stroked. He opened his eyes slowly to see an older lady dressed in a green outfit with flowing blond hair down to her mid back with eyes as blue as the ocean. He stares at her for a moment then realizes that he's not with his father.
"Papa!"
He yelled out trying to sit up only to be pushed gently back down by the woman.
"You must rest, your still not well"
Delsus looked at her and placed hes hand on his face only to notice that his left arm has gone missing. Delsus then broke down into tears as the lady leaned over and embraced him.
"Please don't cry. Its going to be alright."
He sniffled and closed his eyes and asked in a braking voice.
"Whe-where's my Papa?"
She stayed silent and held him tighter.
"He told me..."
Delsus was interrupted by the same doctor he saw in the operating room.
"My my young boy your quite the strong one. Awake and able to talk in only three short days."
He looked at the woman and walked up to her. He shook her hand and greeted her.
"Good evening my name is Dr. Alexander, but most just call me Dr. Alex."
She nodded and smiled.
"And my name is Alison, Alison Vega."
The doctor smiled at Delsus and playfully nudged his fist against Delsus' cheek.
"And whats your name slugger?"
Delsus smiled faintly and quietly said his name.
"Delsus huh. Nice name, how old are you Delsus?"
"E-e-eight sir."
"Eight? So how did you end up in the ally?"
Delsus looked down and squeezed the covers with his hand.
"I-I don't remember."
Dr. Alex sighed and smiled at him.
Its alright Delsus, if you ever remember you come and tell me alright?"
Delsus looked away and agreed. Dr Alex stood up and directed Alison outside to talk to her. Delsus leaned slightly trying to listen to the muffled voices on the other side.
"So did you find out who he belongs to?"
"(sigh) No, I've looked all over town and I can't find anyone. What about the body I found..."
"It was male, the body was to badly burned to identify so we're just waiting for the dental work to come back. Chances are...That man was this boys father."
Delsus' eyes widened and swelled in disbelief as he continued hearing the grave news.
"Does he have any other family?"
" We don't know. We're just planning on keeping him here till someone comes looking for him."
"I'll take him in for the time being. I own a foster home in the outskirts of town. How much do his bills come out to?"
"Well. Nothing."
"Nothing? That can't be right."
"Well he had his heart replaced, his left lung replaced and the some gearing to keep it working, that boy is lucky that some rich guy donated a huge amount of money after he saw what happened to the boy."
"But..Dr. Alex doesn't that strike you as odd?"
"Not really, it has happened before. A few years back a man came in missing an eye and both his legs and someone paid it off in a similar way. But either way they also paid for his own automail arm. This type of amputation is heavy duty stuff."
"Alright, well when can I take him?"
"In a week. Tomorrow we're fitting him for the arm and on friday we'll do the operation. He should be fine by next tuesday."
Delsus laid back down wondering to himself, thinking about where is father was. He refused to believe that his father was gone, even after the dream he had. He slowly moved his arm over to his chest. He felt the stitches and tender skin as he moved more the the left he lost feeling of flesh and felt cold metal. Tears began running down his eyes as he kept feeling on to till he felt his arm socket. he quickly moved his hand away from the sharp pain as he pushed against it. He looked at his hand and it had blood running down his fingers. He felt empty, emotionless and alone. He couldn't react like he normally would, he was exhausted and frail. He then closed his eyes and fell asleep.
