Chapter 2: Starting School
Christy walked into the old, beat down building this small town called a school. The school district was so much larger than the city. The city probably had about 200 people, if that. The high school alone had about twice that. The worst part was having to either be introduced or to introduce herself in front of the whole class. What, are we in 3rd grade again? News Flash: WE’RE SOPHMORES! Some people would just say hi to be nice, but for the most part, Christy didn’t really get to know anyone. At least not until lunch.
Christy sat down at a table by herself. She liked it that way. It gave her time to think, and she didn’t feel like the “new kid” of the school. People made her feel as if she didn’t know anything. Her peace was interrupted when 7 people walked over and sat by her. There were 5 girls and 2 guys, and she hadn’t met any of them in her classes so far.
“You must be Christy,” said the girl who sat to the left. “I’m Amanda. That’s Lindsay, Travis, Amber, Isaac, Angie, and Kali.”
“How did you know who I was?” asked Christy.
“Arstan doesn’t get many new people. When we do, it’s kind of a big thing and is all over the school, well, at least all over the new kid’s grade. Arstan is so small, people will live right outside of the village and not ever know where it is,” answered Angie.
“So, you guys are sophomores, too? It’s kind of weird I haven’t seen any of you guys in any of my classes.”
“That is weird. Maybe you’ll see us in the next two classes. Let me see your schedule,” demanded Lindsay.
“Where are you from, anyways?” asked Travis as everyone looked at Christy’s schedule and compared it to theirs.
“Chicago. Who’s all in my next two classes?” Christy answered.
“Kali and Isaac are both in you 6th and Amber and I are in your 7th,” answered Amanda.
All 8 of them continued to talk throughout the entire lunch, and Christy felt surprisingly comfortable around them. She suddenly felt comfortable at this school, and no longer felt labeled as the “new kid” but instead she felt as if she had known them for a long time. They asked her what it was like growing up in a city like Chicago. She told them about having to always be home by dark, and the vicious dogs that always attacked you whether or not you actually did something or not.
“Hey, we’re all going to the mall after school today, and if you could come that would be fantastic,” invited Isaac.
“I would love to,” Christy replied.
Christy continued through the final 2 periods of the school day, sitting with the only people she knew. At least this way she only had to survive 5 periods without knowing anyone. Oh well, I’ll eventually get to know the people sitting around me.
After school, they went to the mall and she had the most fun she had literally had in years. It was much more fun going places with 7 people than with just 1 person. Stacy was the only person she had ever felt so comfortable around, and Stacy knew EVERYTHING about her. Afterwards, they all got each other’s cell phone numbers and IM addresses. As soon as she got home, Kali started IMing her.
Hey Christy
Hey Kali, what’s up?
Ok, was it just us, or did u notice that Isaac was flirting with u?
He was NOT flirting with me!
Well, everyone else says he was
I don’t care what everyone else says.
Ok, but if he ends up asking u out, what would u say?
Y do u care?
I’m just wondering
I’d probably say yes, bc he’s so sweet, and u have to admit he’s really cute too
Well, yeah, he is really cute and sweet, but that’s bc he’s ISAAC! Those words describe him perfectly! Everyone knows that! Well, I g2g anyways. Cya
Mmk, Bye
The conversation was all that was on Christy’s mind. The more she thought about it, the more she realized that she really did like him. A lot. She could only wonder if he really did like her, and if he really wanted to ask her out. Oh well, only he knows, and only time will tell.
