“ Look at him, blissful in his sleep like everything round him is so cheerful and happy he has no Idea what’s going on. I have half a mind to slit his throat right now.”
“Put the knife away, you will not touch my son Moray not you, the villagers or even the Covenant”
“Don’t speak of their name Eve, they have a reputation of showing up when it’s spoken of. Please, for the sake of the village you have to extinguish this boy spirit now. If they catch us with him alive they will kill everyone including all of the other innocent children who have much more to live for than he does. If the power this boy has is released it will destroy us all and that‘s only if the Covenant doesn’t discover him first.”
“Have you forgotten what day tomorrow is so quickly Moray, they will be here in the morning for the convergence, they will take every child for their congregation against their will and whether I want it to happen or not they will take my boy, my precious son. I’ll never see him again.”
“All of the misfortune that this boy could cause can all be avoided if his blood is shed. The stories that are told of the chosen one’s are described in great detail about the destruction they can bring. To allow this monster to live is the same as welcoming the possibility of death.”
“Moray, all of this talk of old stories you heard while part of the Congregation means nothing to me, this boy, my son is a gift, sent here by the goddess her self. An Advent, a chosen one.
“You better be right or we will all face judgment.
Holy flames
Solomon lay awake listening to his mother and the mysterious old drifter known to the village only as Moray, and gasped in shock as he realized the subject of their conversation was him.
“An Advent?” He asked himself quietly as the old man left his home, his ancient, hand carved cane echoing through the room as it clip-clopped out the door.
Solomon woke suddenly, drenched from head to toe in cold sweat confused about what he had dreamed, or was it even a dream? Breathing heavily he wiped his face with an already soggy palm, shaking uncontrollably from the fear still coursing through his body.
“So you’re finally awake, I was worried for a second, you were talking in your in sleep saying something about fire. I hope you are all right sweetheart.” Said Eve standing to help her son out of the family’s only bed as he tripped and stumbled from shock.
“No, mom I‘m all right, it was just a weird dream. I was there, with you and the drifter Moray, he was begging you to kill me but you refused.” Solomon sighed heavily finding it hard to repeat his nightmare as he continued.
“ After you wouldn’t give in he left the house, then that’s when the fires came, I started hearing a voice in my head that sounded like me only hysterical. The voiced told me I was destined to be great, he told me people will praise my name as they do the Goddess but all that I had to do was except it.”
“Except what Solomon?” Asked Eve just as Moray burst into the room screaming.
“Moray, what is wrong?” Eve asked surprise by their neighbors’ sudden entrance.
“They are here, I told you they would come for him. The Covenant they are on the horizon, here to take the boy as I have foretold.” Eve quickly grabbed her sons arm and pulled him close looking into his eyes as she began to speak.
“Solomon, no matter what happens when those men reach this village, you do what ever they ask of you do you understand that? There are some things about your birth I have not told you and I am sorry, but these men if they learn your true purpose, who and what you really are they will harm you in any way that they can. Will you bear my request?”
Solomon look into his mothers eyes and saw for the first time ever, genuine fear. Although he wanting to question her about what she had just told him, he began felt the grip on his arm tighten signaling his mothers haste as she search drastically for an answer from her son.
“Yes, mother I promise you. If that is what you wish I will listen to these men.” Leaving their hut the trio began fighting their way through the crowd of frightened people pointing at oncoming figures riding on the light of the rising sun. Eve, Moray, and Solomon arrived at the front of the assembly searching out into the desolate dessert looking for the fabled men who carried with the blackness of death.
Mounted on a black lion racing through the sand like everything around it was perpetually frozen in time, a man pale as the glowing moon and as destructive as the suns flames began to smile. His black lips curled and his filed, yellow teeth revealed themselves.
“Someone is going to die today, I can taste it.” his whispered to himself in a jagged voice while licking lips, a desire to kill running through his body as he galloped along, a tortured laugh rippling through the air.
Advent Rising
“All children step forward, while adult stand against the wall with your hands up. If we find any weapons on you we will kill on the spot.” Roared a giant of a man covered from head to toe in black body armor as he shepherded small children into a straight line while an equally large man roughly pushed and pulled the adults’ away from their children. Parents cried and yelled as they were pulled from there babies and beaten if they refused to cooperate.
“You bastards how can you do this, you can’t take my daughter from me she’s all I have left. please!” Cried a man as one of the large soldiers wrestled the farmers baby from his hands as tears began to flow from his eyes and anger erupted from his heart. Pulling a sharp blade from inside his robe, the man charge at the soldier who had temporarily removed his helmet to inspect the child for disease and other sicknesses. Snarling like a wild animal with rage he slashed at the oblivious soldier just as he began to turn around. From eye to cheek, a thin line of crimson blood began to form over the soldier’s massive face. Screaming with a combination of furry and pain the soldier quickly dropped the helpless child and fell to his knees clutching his face, blood beginning to seep through his fingers to the thirsty ground below.
“You blasphemous, son of b***h. How dare you scare the face of Reaper! Reaper will kill you, he will rip the tiny bones from your body and laugh as you beg for Reapers mercy. He will-” The soldier’s ranting was cut short when a ghost like figure appeared in front of him, his pale skin glowing brightly against the black cloak wrapped around his waist, blowing in the dry wind. Grabbing the frightened villager by his neck with long, bony fingers, his nails burying deep into the mans jugular as he began to cry out in pain.
Turning his head quickly and shutting his eyes tight, Solomon prayed for the mans safety, but he knew it was to late.
“Scum of the Goddess, drench in your filth.” said the figure, and with the twitch of the pale mans wrist the villagers body went limp, the last breath of life escaping from his lips. With a smirk he dropped the farmer and turned to his wounded warrior still clutching his bloodied face.
“You allowed your blood be spilled by these sinful villagers, blood given to you mercifully by the goddess herself endowing you as one of her chosen, blood that now I see you do not deserve.” Pulling a long golden blade inscribed with prayers from a sheath at his hilt, the man began to raise it above his head as the kneeling warrior began to cry out in fear.
“Basil please, it was not Reapers fault. The farmer caught Reaper off guard, he was not aware of the sinners presence.” Pleaded Reaper cowering in fear. The golden blade swung down swiftly as it caught the light of the sun. The beheaded soldiers body dropped to the grey land below, feeding the starving dirt with more of his blood.
“Consider your death a blessing. Now you get to see the goddess herself. ” smirked the man named Basil.
