Chapter 5
I awoke with a start, suddenly realizing I wasn’t where I last remembered being. I rubbed my head, why did it hurt so bad? I strained to remember what happened after I passed out, but nothing came to mind. Had I been moved when I was passed out?
A small, contained, fire answered my questions. Georgie.
I struggled to sit up, my ankle hurt like nothing else and I was still worried about the wolves.
“Georgie?” I whispered. I saw something stir beside the fire, Georgie was probably going to get up and explain to me what happened.
“Shut up.” I heard from beside me.
I turned around quickly and Georgie was laying beside where I was laying a few minutes ago. “Do you want him to know that you know where you are, and to question you?”
I felt something, probably fear, constrict my throat. Him, questions? Did Georgie know this person? I lay down obediently and looked over at him, “Who is that?”
“Let’s just say it’s the person that shot your wolf. They’re fine. By the way.”
I knew what he was trying to do, trying to get me not to ask who it was, well it wasn’t going to work. “Who is it?”
Georgie closed his eyes, “Trust me, you don’t want to know.”
I grabbed his wrist out of pure frustration, and dug my nails into it, “Tell me or I’ll scream and say you hurt me.”
Georgies eyes popped open and he looked at me in desperation, “Please, don’t! You don’t want to know who it is, trust me. I felt disgusted knowing myself, there’s no way you will be able to take it.”
I shot daggers, “I. Want. To. Know.” I said between clenched teeth.
He blew air out of his lips, “You’re so stubborn. Don’t you know knowing can hurt you? Fine. I’ll tell you.” He snapped. He took a big breath and then continued shakily, “It’s your dad. He’s the one who shot Brooke and tried to kill her, he’s the one who scared us both out of our skins. He’s the one who found the campsite I had made and found us both. He lit the fire and he’s the one who will ask us billions of questions if he knows we’re up, OK? He’s the one who did all of this.”
I felt sick to my stomach; I felt tears pressing against my eyes. I let go of Georgie’s wrist and turned over onto my side, away from Gerogie so he couldn’t see my tears.
How could he, HOW COULD HE?!
