• Chapter 4

    How shocking.
Of all the vampyres in the world, I never knew I would fall in love with a mortal - namely David - and protect him instead of just feed on him and move on.
The world was a strange place to be.
It was about midnight, so I decided I better go off before someone noticed him gone. My brothers would know I was roaming or something, so they wouldn't care.
He got up, then helped me up after the stars had all apeared on the sky. We watched it some more.
"Good times have to end." I sighed. "Won't your parents be worried?"
"No. Back at my old house, I'd come home at times like three in the morning, and sometimes later." He laughed, then started to walk with me, holding my hand.
He really didn't care that I was a vampyre.
And I thought this would be hard.
    Yeah, right.
The park was always a quiet place at this time of night, and even though my sleep wasn't due for a while, I yawned.
"Tired?" He asked, though it was perfectly obvious.
"Somewhat. I don't need much sleep, but after something like a day, you need to huddle up in the bed, and nod off a bit."
He bit his lip, tension rolling off of him.
I pulled us to a halt. "What is it?"
I hated not being able to read someone's mind. Especially it would have been different if this wasn't a problem.
He was a shield, even in mortal form.
He would be quite powerful if he was immortal.
    I banished the thought.
    "Nothing." He sighed.
"The hell it's nothing. Tell me."
He sighed again, and looked into my eyes. The blue in my eyes was always darker in the night, so they must be near navy blue instead of azure blue. His light blue eyes swam with confusion.
"My parents. They are very good a guessing, and I'm kind of afraid to see what would happen if they saw you. They are always thinking this and that about legends and myths. If they knew what you were, and they knew you and I were together, boy would I be screwed." He shook his head. "I can never let that happen."
    "I'll help you. Don't worry."
    I smiled.
Even if we didn't have forever - there was no way I could turn him into a vampyre, and live with myself - I knew I would be happy as long as he was there.
    Once he left...
