When you love someone that person is someone and when someone loves you, you are something but when both are in love it is everything. How long can relationships last for one another? Is it the trust that keeps it going or is it the feelings hidden inside each one, afraid to show and say? An unanswerable question, yet so many answers.
Approaching from the tree blossoming edge, a young girl dressed in a black and white skirt stopping up to her knee. Her hair combed to the side and nicely fixed for the day. She carried her blue bag inscribed with French lettering by her right side, making her lean over to contain the bag’s weight. Stepping carefully over the spring grass, she made contact with her friend.
“I’m here, sorry, if it took long, I had to say goodbye to some friends. Did you want to talk to me?” The young girl approached from the freshly green bushes. “ What's wrong? Don’t tell me you just told me to come here to hear you stutter."
“Sorry, I…I was just rephrasing what I wanted to say to you, so…so if I take to long like forever, can…can you be patient?” The stuttering boy asked throwing out a smile with his hands strapped in his pocket and leaning towards her.
“Sure but just don’t spend all day, I have people at home that will worry if I don’t show up.” She told placing her bag to a nearby moss-covered boulder and drew her cell phone out of her side pocket.
“Your parents…I suppose, will worry about you?” He said jumping onto a stubby short stone. “Sorry, that was a rhetorical question. Don’t answer it, okay?”
“Well not just my parents, your parents will too, if you’re going to be gone for too long that is.” She replied walking up to the boy. “So what did you want to tell me?
“Gulp… um…I…think I love you.” He quickly muttered looking down and throwing up another weird expression. “No, I mean, I know I do…I think…I do…yeah, I do and a lot too!”
Giggling to hear such a random phrase she replied, “I know you do and I do too. I love you! I mean we have been dating for about…seven months, isn’t it?”
“Yeah it’s been seven months. Um…that was all, I wanted to say to you. Thank you!” He blushed hopping down to wet grass, standing next to her as a pink flower petal brushed against her hair.
“You have something in your hair.” He pointed, gently picking it out, “It’s a flower petal! Here, a flower petal.”
“Thanks, you can have it.” She rejected giving an expression of “How weird?”
“What? Why? I don’t need a pink flower petal it’s going to make me look gay.” He expressed tossing it to the wet grass as she rung out another expression with her lips puckered out and her pupils slightly hanging to the left of her.
“Sorry, did you want it? I…I didn’t think you wanted it since you said no. I’ll go get another one for you, okay?” He said turning around to retrieve another blossom.
“No, I’m just playing, I don’t need one.” She stopped grabbing a hold of his right arm.
“Okay…are…are you sure? It…it’s just right there, it wouldn’t even kill me.” He questioned placing his hand on her right shoulder, nervously smiling.
Thinking for a second, she quickly flicked her tongue to the side, “Okay, let’s go get one.” Dragging him to the blossoming tree, a gentle breeze blew against the young couple with fresh blossoming leaves passing against one another.
“Hey, I thought these trees would already bloom. Why aren’t they bloom yet, isn’t it summer already?” He turned to hear her answer.
“It obviously not there time to bloom yet, that’s why. I think you need to pay more attention to biology class.”
“I knew that, I was just wondering if you pay attention in biology class.” He hysterically said letting loose his arm from her hold to grasp her hand. “I know, we’ve only dated for seven months and 286 days and forty weeks and six days and about 6816 hours and 408960 minutes and 24537600 seconds, starting on October 24, 2008 at around 3:25 pm but I really like you, I mean, I really love you, so I’m just telling you in case you don’t think I do. I really do, though, I’m not lying to you, and I’m serious. I love you, not for who are but whom I am when I’m with you.
“Wow! You really do keep track in our relationship.”
“Of course, what kind of boyfriend wouldn’t…a bad one who doesn’t care, obviously.”?
They kept quiet for a while not knowing what to say, an awkward silence commenced around the two. Although, they weren’t saying anything, the feeling off standing next to one another and the bond of holding one another’s hand felt warm enough to be lit forever. He was safe, knowing that someone he know, cared about him and even though, he did not fully trust her, he knew he somewhat did. He knew that no matter how long they would be together, he would promise to stand by her side and be there whenever she is in need of someone. If only he could stop time and let their moment stay for just a little longer, for as long as he could with her…forever.
“I have to go home now.” She said, turning around to receive a hug. The tightly farewell hug was a hug he received everyday when both decided to leave one another either to go home or to class, but this one today was close, really close that he felt her spine and possibly her chest against his. Her hair smelt of a fresh flower scent hidden in the prettiest flower never been found and her warmth hidden deep inside by closely drawn when being this close. They’re hug was like a rope tied around one another never able to be untied again, an eternal rope.
Releasing herself, he quickly took a quick sniff to remember what she had smelt like and to remember how close each one was to another. Saying a quick good bye, she walked passed him and continued.
“Um…do you remember what you said, when we first started dating… about that thing about “eight years”?” He stopped looking to the ground to see if she remembered.
“Of course, what about it?” She stared, looking towards him and leaning over to carry her bag.
“Let’s meet here again…I mean, in eight years, same time and date, of course, if it isn’t too long for you.” Stocking his hands into his pocket again. “In eight years, here at around 3:25 pm just as right now.”
“Hmm…okay, I’ll come here in eight years, you better remember then.”
“Really…Promise? Even on the same day and time?”
“I promise you.” She replied walking off into the distance.
“I promise you, too. I love you, and I’ll always do.” He whispered taking another direction as both left the scene, leaving the blooming flowers to grow and bloom.
Eight Years Later
Approaching from the tree blossoming edge, a matured man dressed in a black and white tux appeared at the scene. His hair evenly combed and styled. A smile crossed his face and his hands still strapped in his pant pockets. Stepping carefully the spring grass he made contact with his friend.
“I’m here, I told you I promise you, it’s exactly 3:25 pm on this same day.” The man appeared staring at the young lady. “Can I ask what are you looking at?”
“Look, they’re blooming.”
