“Can I ask you something?” I asked with complete anticipation.
“Of course. Shoot” He said not completely listening while scribbling things down in his diary.
“Am I just your usual student?” I asked, looking down at my phone; stroking the seams with my fingernails.
“What?” He rose one eye brow without looking up at me.
“You know, am I just a usual student to you or am i… different?? I watched him now, turning my phone in circles between my fingers.
He paused, tapping a pen on his book. Then he looked up at me, blue eyes sparking , pointing his pen at me.
“Define different.” He stated, looking straight at me, giving me his undivided attention, along with a cheeky smirk.
“You know...special?” I spat out the word special quickly, wishing I could grab it and cram it back in my mouth as fast as it had come out.
He looked at me, like he was searching for something he could fish out from my eyes. The day was over cast, and the only source of light was the glary grey light that came through the windows. I was sitting on a desk far from his, with my legs crossed, in my bland school uniform.
“Where did this come from?” He asked, even though I knew he knew exactly what I was talking about, he almost had me convinced that he really didn’t know.
He always spoke his words with ease, always like he was sympathetic to someone.
“Just…” I trailed off. He knew I couldn’t tell him, why was he pushing that? “Nowhere.” I stated firmly.
He frowned at me, obviously not liking that comment, and I looked down sadly. How I wish I could tell him the truth. I looked up at him and looked over his white button up shirt, with rolled up sleeves and the first few buttons undone and down his black dress pants to his tattered black converse. Then I followed her trail back up to his blue eyes, slightly covered by his black framed, Clark Kent style glasses.
“Hey.. whats up?” He asked me.
I was confused as to why he was asking me all these questions I was positive he already knew the answers to. It’s like they were rhetorical. I answered in the only way I knew I could, in this situation.
“The roof” I said with no humour in my voice what so ever.
He laughed slightly. I wasn’t sure whether he was laughing at the comment or the fact that it had no humour in it. I sighed slightly to myself, looking down to my phone. I could feel his eyes crawling over me. The feeling rose Goosebumps all down my arms.
“Talk to me” He insisted.
I glanced up at him, his eyes were on mine.
“You still haven’t answered my question” I smiled at him. A fake smile that I knew lacked happiness.
He hesitated. A slight breeze ran past me from the open window and I shivered slightly and rubbed my bear arms.
“Well…Yeah I guess you are. You’re certainly closer to me than other students...” He trailed off, tilting his head back towards his book and continued scribbling notes down.
I was not satisfied with that answer. “And..?” I asked eagerly, leaning my palms on the desk.
“And... I …enjoy… your company.” He added with a proud smile.
I blushed slightly. I could feel the heat rising from underneath my collar. I noticed him looking at me as I blushed. I looked away briefly to hide my red face. I heard him laugh. That laugh still remains in my head.
“Shush you!” I joked.
I watched his face as his smile diminished slowly, and so did mine. He studied his computer screen intently. The computer screen reflected in his glasses. There was a long paused of drawn out silence, and I could hear the teacher in the next room. Then he laughed, revealing his perfectly white teeth. My stomach went all nervous like. I wondered if there was a small tiger chasing the flock of butterflies down in my stomach. He threw me a look.
“You look lonely sitting all the way over there by yourself. Come sit here” He smiled and patted the seat next to him. I did what I was told. I got up from my seat and sat next to him.
A few minutes passed in silence as he studied the computer screen, reading several emails and marking a few history assignments. I smiled to myself and turned towards him.
The seats were touching so I was only inches away. Our eyes met and he gripped my gaze.
“You’re special to me to, you know?” I muttered softly, glancing down at his lips and then back up to his piercing blue eyes.
I bit my lip. He didn’t move, not an inch. We both fell silent. Once again I could hear the teacher in the next room yelling at her students. But I ignored it. I leant forward slightly. I could hear his breathing. I waited for a reaction, a pulling or even a pushing away. But he didn’t move. He just continued to look into my eyes. I had dreamt of this moment. I felt like I was going to cough up a butterfly. Or the small tiger that was chasing them would rip through my tender stomach at any time. I lent forward further and pressed my lips into his.
At first he was reluctant, but then his hand slowly trailed up to the side of my face, stroking my cheek softly with his piano playing fingers of his. I could taste the coffee on his lips. He kissed me back. I ignored everything around me. But when I went to kiss him back again he suddenly pushed me away with so much force that I hit the table beside me.
“Ow!” I exclaimed.
“No! This isn’t right! I’m your teacher and nothing else!” He enforced, while standing up and pointing his angry fist at the ground.
I glared a sad expression into his angry eyes hoping to soften him, but it was no use. He left the room, glancing at me on the way out. Tears dwelled in my eyes. I tried to fight them back but they had a life of their own. They came streaming down my cheeks. I hide my face in my hands and sobbed hard. When I took them away from my face, I looked up to see him standing at the door.
“Look...” He sighed, not moving from the door way. He hesitated. “Just… Go back to your class ok?” He added, before walking away.
