We usually think of sleep separate from being awake, and classify sleep as some sort of torment or some form of death, when we truly die when we awaken from sleep, as it kills our dreams and vivid imagination. Being awake, of the two, must be the honest death, for people can only truly live where they may act like themselves and behave how they fancy; Themistocles even killed his own soldiers with pillows as he "Sleep-Killed". it just goes to show you the consequences of an artificial world with no restrictions; It is questionable if Lucan and Seneca had not found this. It is a death that we all die every day, the same death that Adam died before the fall (I wonder what he dreamt about); a death that balances between the ultimate and eternal life or death; and so, I never rest my body before I rest my soul with the world, and pray a so-long prayer before my sleep.
The day has ended as quickly as it began, but don't leave me, oh Lord, do not let my darkest sins cover and block the glory of your face. Be steady in all that you do, I pray, for you make the day, not the sun. Those who simply cannot sleep; in my thoughts, guard me from enemies; protect me from my tricky enemies, you remain awake as I stumble to sleep. Let there be no dream that torments me, but let them be blessed like Jacob's. And let my soul be awake as I sleep, force my slumber to obey you, so I can sleep while learning in spirit, I awaken to only holy dreams. And whit an energetic self I go where I must, like the revolving sun. Sleep is death, and I become so close, for if sleep is death, I am near death every day. And as I now lay my head on my grave, my bed. Here I stay, let God awake me when it is time. And so I rest peacefully, and securely, to awaken once more or die. These are the days that I am drowsy. I may awaken, but only to sleep once more. But there will come a time where I will no longer sleep, but rest awake for eternity.
This is the prayer to speak before I go to bed, I need no other pill or drink to aid me to sleep: but after my prayer is done, I close my eyes with completion, I feel alright with saying "goodbye" to the day, and sleep unto mine own resurrection.
