• The caged bird sings its song
    All the day long
    Through the dark night
    And into the light

Its voice rings like a bell
    The beauty enough to fell
    The hardest heart of granite
The heart carved out of stone

    They can take his dignity
    They can take his flight
    They can take his wings
Never again to soar to great heights

But they cannot take his song
They can not take his might
They can not take his voice
Which he raises to the sweet night

    He serenades the moon
    And makes the sun blush
    With his sweet croon
And for him, light they gush

    The caged bird sings
In the place of his wings
His voice soars, even when he can not
He is determined not to be forgot
