-
one day i went for a walk, feeling too old to play,
i threw on my hood and double knotted my shoes,
didnt know i'd be feeling the blues.
i saw a little girl with two blond pig-tails tie with pink ribbon,
i remembered wearing my hair that way when i played in the shining sun.
a little boy rode his bike, speeding down the street,
his face was merely freedom,
a look that was always elite.
i stopped and watched a young girl with her little sister,
they were climbing up a tree,
they could have been four or five,
but it must have worried me.
one of the girls was surely feeling alive, climbing to the very top, humming like a beehive.
suddenly i saw the branch snap, i ran into the yard,
i broke her fall with my muscled arms, i ran her to her house,
its a pretty good thing that i decided to act on impulse.
as i walked home, i smiled only once, remembering my older brother,
we would jump and run and climb the yard out front when i was only three,
but now he was older, he was in jail,
i was remembering the time he wasnt watching, the time i really fell,
but it was ok now, because today i didnt fail.
on the way home,
i skipped some stones,
letting the fishes know,
i was back, i had returned,
and that i would continue skipping stones.
