Mirrored
As I pass each empty doorway,
Candle light casting shadows upon the ground.
Echoes of my heavy footsteps, falling
Leaving the darkness behind me.
Oh, one dank room, it catches my eye.
The glint of my candle quiet and sound;
Soft glow of fire in black shadow
I see in front of me, another break in the darkness.
Moving toward the metallic gleam, as if some silver treasure,
Entering the shadows that surround
Not once before;
When there was more than black.
Finally, I reach the light.
But all it is, a gilded mirror
Catching my eye, this glittering gateway
Leading to another world.
I place my hand upon the surface
And someone, my other self, presses back.
But I, not feeling the glass underneath
This presence of life, who is not quite alive.
I can feel the anger rising.
This mocking being, another world.
Striking the mirror, shattering the glass
This agony. I don’t want to survive.
Shrieking, the glass falls upon the floor
Bloodied silver, polished to perfection.
But he other world struggles on
The darkness, dying it’s reflection black.
Now, as I walk the halls, eternally living
I can still see that figure, pale white and red.
The shriek of glass, long gone,
But still echoes, until I am set free.
