It's dark,
tonight,
it's raining,
tonight,

the wind,
it didn't howl,
as loud as it should,

the rain,
the rain,
it fell,
but it fell,
on me,

not the rain,
it should have been,
not the way,
it should have been,

the lightning,
deadly,
terrible,
lovely,
crippling,
as it fells a tree,
and fells my heart,

Their thunder,
it hurts,
my ears,
my mind,

Their endless,
endless,
thunder,

the kind that makes you wish,
you were little again,
so you had an excuse,

to hide under the covers,
to tremble,
to whimper,
at Their thunder,

but I am older,
I cannot hide,
anymore,

I must listen,
listen,
as Their thunder hurts my mind,

be still,
still,
as Their lightning pierces my heart,

must wait,
wait,
as Their rain falls,
falls,
falls,

on me,

and hope that as I drown,
it will numb me
