• My life is an ever deepening well
    Growing and lengthening as
I climb and climb, but fail,
For the walls that surround me
Are too steep, too perfect, too slick.
So I sit on the soft, cold ground,
    A mere circle,
In my dirty and ragged school uniform jumper.
I draw my knees up to my chest, and weep, and weep.
As I listen to myself crying,
    A warm light shines down,
    I look up.
Blinded by the light, I shield my eyes with my hand.
A shadow forms in the circle of light, and I look up once more.
A face peers into my well, concerned.

    "Are you okay?" they ask.
I stand up, smile, and wave.
"No," I say, "I'm fine. Could you help me out?"
As if magical, a long rope comes down out of no where.
Gladly, I grab it, and i am pulled out quick.
I sit on the rim, staring into the person's face.
Then I just smile, jump off, and dance around the clearing.
Blossoms fly about as a breeze picks up.
As I twirl ,and twirl, the dirt comes off my skirt,
And then my ragged uniform disappears.
I am now wearing a beautiful blue silk gown,
And my hair shines, blonde, and flowing.
    The person only laughs,
And watches me, and my silly, yet graceful antics.
We run, and play, and chat all day in the clearing.

Sunset comes, and they say, "I have to go."
"Please, don't leave. We are having fun, aren't we? Please don't leave!" I cry.
They say, "Don't worry. I'll be back tomorrow."
I run to them, and embrace them tightly.
They gently push me back. "I'm coming back."
    They reassured me.
Tears begin to fall as they walk from me, away from the clearing.
Before they dissolved out of sight, I went to follow.
I trip on a tree root, but I don't fall to the ground.
I feel nothing, but air beneath me, as I slowly fall into my well once more.
I look up, and watch the last rays of light leave the sky.
I shed one last tear, and when I reach the ground, I close my eyes to dream.
