This is War...
You lay in the trench
Awaiting your commands.
Your heart is racing, your palms sweating
You feel nervous
You feel sick to the stomach,
And cold to the bone.
At last you get the command
“Go, go, go!”
You leap from the trench
With gun in hand
And bullets whiz past.
Your heart is pounds in your ears.
You see your first target,
Aim and pull the trigger.
You hear a comrade cry
“Grenade! Grenade!”
You look down in terror,
But it is too late.
The dirt flies up
The Earth in your eyes.
You fall to the ground.
You are alive for now,
Which soon you will regret.
You awaken hours later,
A face full of dirt.
The air smells of gun powder
The air reeks of death.
The battle is over,
Your side has lost.
You look to the left
You look to the right
Everywhere you look,
The fallen lay dead.
The ground littered with bullets,
The Earth soaked with blood.
Your comrades lay in puddles
With limbs shot away.
Your friends lay butchered
To rot and decay.
These are sights to forever haunt.
This war is one that will never be forgot…
