I love the snow
The uplifting feeling you get
Glancing outside for the first time
To see a world clothed in white
A smile stretched across your face
As you upon a peaceful sea of silence
I love the snow
Those first few steps into a new world
The crunch of soft cold
The newness of it all
The quiet bond between you and nature
Broken only by your frozen breathing
I love the snow
To look upon untouched glory
Beautiful
Begging to be stepped in
You mess it up just because you can
Making angels
Throwing snowballs
Laughing companionably with friends
Or just yourself
I love the snow
Because you know who has been there
Animals
People
They leave their tracks
And make you wonder where they're going
I love the snow
Walking through it all
Carefully
More aware of yourself than usual
Stepping with precision
Yet still unable to stop yourself
Sinking knee-deep into a hidden drift
Surprise is in every stride
I love the snow
When it freezes over
Walkways slick with ice
Nobody goes anywhere
Except you
You try to walk on ice
And are grateful for every second you don't fall
As the ground creaks threateningly below
I love the snow
When it all begins to melt
When the snow becomes dirtier
Slushier
And squishier
And you just can't help yourself
You MUST step in it again and again
I love the snow
It's what makes months of frigidness
Worth it
On a dull and lonely day
I can still find joy and laughter in the snow

Description:
This is a poem I created today to express in so many words WHY I love the snow. When I say 'you' in the poem, I mean 'me.' :)
Because I'm so much better at words when I type them down than when I speak them out loud.
And there's so much more I could say about snow, too. I just really enjoy the stuff, even though I sometimes find myself wet and freezing because of it. - Date: 01/31/2010
