Wednesday night
I stepped into green light and
saw her walking by
and every time she does
I pause
and whisper words to satisfy myself
I know it won't help but hell,
I might as well
But tonight you heard them rhyme
it's just too bad I'm out of time.
You said you're barking up the wrong tree
here with me
and I said those great green eyes of yours
are keeping you from seeing me
and I'm so tired of
this bone you're picking
this itch that you're not scratching
this empty bag you're packing
don't say goodbye
And I'm that big dog with
the biggest bark you've ever heard
but all the barking in the world
won't make you understand a word
Thursday morning
I'm lying in bed at 3 A.M.
Exit sign is calling your name
burning bright
And if it's my last chance
I'll be there
to say goodbye
So now I'm running
in this parking lot
and I thought you'd never say goodbye
but borrowed time just can't be bought
and I'm so tired
of being led on by
the high beams and the emptiness
and boarding signs and your last kiss
Don't leave without saying goodbye
And I'm that big dog with the
biggest bark you've ever heard
but at thirty thousand feet I know
you won't hear a single word
And I'm running and I'm screaming
with the biggest bark you've ever heard
and I've found you but you're leaving
and you won't hear a single word.
Thursday night I saw red lights fade out into the sky.

Doesn't flow as well as some others you've done, but still good. You wrote it as a me and you kind of song, so shouldn't the title be you only hear barking, rather than they?
The rhyme/time couplet feels weak compared to the rest; do you really need it? - Report As Spam
