iii.
We counted the stars scattered across the Winter sky:
glowing beads from an abacus -
broken moments before completing the equation
proving that life couldn't come from coincidence.
So I took your wrist
and, pointing like the hand of God,
we joined them together to see heroes
we joined them together to see heroes still
we joined them together to see heroes still waiting.
iii.
We walked through puddles like Titans across lakes,
watching them like windows
where the ripples were tearing through Tartarus
and even Hades felt us in the depths of his soles.
Pebbles fell like boulders and we could hear every dull rumble
calling up to us like the roar of Cerberus,
shifting soil that had held roots like a vice for centuries.
iii.
Apollo was chasing Selene over the horizon
as branches winced in the wind, ready to break
into song.
The stark shine of the Sun's stampeding stallions
still shimmered in your eyes -
they'd said goodbye
long before your lips pursed to utter the words.
I held you close
and felt our heavy-heart beats in a thunderous rhythm,
as if the pulses running through them were controlled by Zeus.
And for a few moments more, we felt like gods.
