this is a Rei shikamaru story^^ i love the couple! enjoy!


*Shikamaru where did you go?* Rei ran through the trees as fast as her legs would take her. *Has Itachi found you?* She gritted her teeth at the thought. Shikamaru had run off to find Itachi and fight him. Rei was worried about him. If Itachi had found him he could be dead by now. She pushed herself to move faster. *I have to get to you first!*. Just then there was an explosion. Rei stopped. *THERE!* She thought as she ran in the direction of the explosion. “Please…Please be okay!” She said to herself as she ran.

*What…what does she see in him?* Shikamaru asked himself.
“Are you planning on staying on the ground?” Itachi grinned. He wasn’t the type of person to show mercy. Sometimes Rei thought he didn’t know the meaning of the word.
“******** You!” Shikamaru swore as he got up.
“That’s some pretty big talk for a kid.” Itachi replied.
Shikamaru wiped blood from his lip where he been hit.
“Come on then!” Itachi taunted him.

Rei was running so fast she was sweating so she took off her coat as she ran. She just dropped it somewhere. *I have to hurry!* There was a loud crack and then a huge tree fell.
Rei forced back tears and pressed on. She finally came upon the fallen tree but Itachi nor Shikamaru were there.
Rei followed a trail of kunai and blood.*please…*

“You’re a fool to think you could beat me!” Itachi raised his voice as he tightened his grip on the boy’s throat.
“Uhh…” Shikamaru struggled to get lose, but to no avail. Itachi threw him just as it looked he would pass out. Shikamaru hit the ground pretty hard. “Uhhh…nnn” He groaned as he fell. Shikamaru looked up at Itachi. Then Itachi closed in with the final attack, it would be fatal. Just as Itachi was to lay the finishing blow, Rei jumped in front of Shikamaru. Itachi stopped in his tracks as soon as he saw her. Then he jumped back a few feet.
“Rei, Move!” Itachi demanded.
She stretched out her arms and shook her head slightly.
“I’m not moving!” She Refused.
“REI!” Itachi looked pissed.
“…”
“MOVE NOW!” He was definitely pissed.
“NO! I won’t let you take his life!”
*How…When did she become so defiant?* Itachi thought.
“R…Rei…” Shikamaru stammered.
She looked straight ahead in to Itachi’s eyes. Her red eyes burned in to his. He didn’t back down.
“If you get in my way, you may lose your own life!”
“Would you even attack me? Itachi?” She looked sad but never backed off.
“…” He sighed. “You’d give your precious life for him?”
“In a heart beat. No different from anything I would do for you.” She smiled.
“I see. Then I will leave it at that.” He turned.
Rei lowered her arms. She turned to Shikamaru.
“A…are you alright?” She asked.
“Yeah…”
Rei pulled out a cloth from a pocket and dabbed it on a cut on his cheek.
“I…” Shikamaru started but Rei interrupted.
“Thank you.” She said.
“For… what?” He was confused.
“For standing up to Itachi only two people have done that for my sake. Three now, you, Neji, and Sakura.” She smiled.
“I see.” *I thought that Itachi was an a** to her all the time, but I was wrong. He said ‘your precious life’ he really cares about her.*
“Shikamaru, can you stand?” Rei asked.
“Huh…Uh yeah I think so…”
She helped him up.
*He cares about her more than anyone could. I see that now.*
Rei helped him home and Itachi disappeared for the night.
Rei bandaged Shikamaru’s wounds.
“Rei…”
“Uh…yes…”
“I love you.”
“I love you too Shikamaru Nara.” She smiled a sweet and loving smile then kissed him.
