Part 5
Amani looked at her brother in horror as she realized the severity of her situation. "This can't be happening..." she moaned, almost collapsing from weak knees. "Allah, I don't deserve this."
After pleading with Allah for forgiveness, Amani returned to her room to think out her situation. While sitting on her bed with her arms in praying position, Amani began to sob quietly, secretly praying for a quick death. She pictured the rocks being catapulted towards her body, hitting her arms, legs, and everywhere else. She pictured the blood running down her body, her tears flowing down her cheeks, her misery eched on her face. It wouldn't be a simple death.
The next morning, Amani held her tongue while awaiting her execution. Her mother and sister sat nearby, screaming hysterically and begging Allah to save her. Amani however sat quietly, keeping her grace and bravery. As her name was called, Amani stood up and began the long walk towards death.
The crowd outside her door was larger than expected, all her school friends and neighbors had arrived to see the murder. Amani looked straight ahead to avoid their glances, hoping to keep some dignity. Her father stood at the end of the path, anger encrypted on his face. Amani looked into his deep set eyes and secretly pleaded for forgiveness, but knew it was hopeless. She took in a deep breath and stood in the middle of the crowd, looking up at the clouds above.
Just as the crowd began to yell, Amani raised her hands to the sky and chanted "Why Allah, why has this happened to me? Why must I die with shame?" Then she felt the pain, the unbearable pain of endless rocks being hurled at her body. First they made scratches, little incisions on her legs and arms. But after a few seconds, the pain was more real, more intrusive. In an instant, she cried out in pain as a large rock was thrown at her head, causing her to fall to her knees in weakness. The crowd continued to pummel Amani with stones, with nothing but hatred in their eyes. Amani bit her lip in disgust, realizing that her society wasn't as perfect as she had imagined. The last thing she felt was a blow to the stomach, one that sent her falling backwards onto the concrete, killing her instantly.
