well, 237 will explain all. first of all, 237 is from special happy place called north pole. 237 is part of race of elves that work for Mr. Santa. in north pole, 237 does special job that is different from other elves. 237 does not work in toasty elf shop with nice elf coat, 237 works with animal and need pretty red jacket or else 237 will freeze. yes, elf can freeze in very cold temperature.
in 237's kind of work, 237 must do all sort of things. feed animal, train animal, take care of sick animal, make animal happy, and most important (and most cold), take animal outside. 237 is so busy working with animal and have so much fun, sometime 237 even sleep with animal. animal are all so nice (except for new untrusting animal, but all love 237 in the end), 237 feel so much at home rather than in elf houses with other elves.
this is why 237 speak different from other elves, and why 237 dress different too. 237 does not speak to other elves, only to animal, and animal do not speak back in elf talk. so, 237 does not have as developed talk as other elves who speak to each other all day long. 237 understand basic speak, but 237 just is not used to normal speak. so, 237 did not get dropped on head (but she may have been kicked by naughty animal one too many time) as elf child, 237 just does not have practice of everyone else.

Mr. Santa give aaalll elves break time, and this year Mr. Santa invited plenty of shop elves to go with to gaia and make much holiday cheer and many smile. 237 was not invited, but she understands. even though 237 is on break, 237 must still make sure animals are healthy. but 237 wanted to make happy, so she got friend to take care of animals while 237 makes happy.
why did 237 choose to come to gaia instead of stay at north pole? one reason only: to make holiday cheer. 237 does not want to be popular! what reason does 237 have to be popular? once holiday season is over, 237 will go back to take care of animals for rest of year. who in gaia will remember who 237 is? nobody. even if 237 become popular, 237 will have to leave to work for Mr. Santa again. popularity will be no more.
