"Just tell me when it's over," I groaned, burying my face in my hands.
"Umm, can I say it's not over?" said Jake, taking my hands away from my face.
What? I looked out of the bushes. It was a miracle. Someone has called Mr. McTilleef inside his office! I felt like dancing a jig, but it's kinda hard doing that while you're in someone's lap. "Come on, thank me," said Jake.
I looked at him. What was he talking about? I gasped. In his hand was a cellphone. No way. Jake actually did such a thing. Jake had on his goofy smile again and I couldn't help but laugh at it. When I was trying to get out of the bush, Jake jerked me back in the bush. "Aghhh!!!" I shouted, trying to gain balance.
"Shhhhh...." whispered Jake, covering my mouth with his hand.
I gulped. I knew what he was thinking. Mr. McTilleef got out of his office again. I looked out of the bushes. Not a soul was there. I glared back at Jake, who was looking all goofy. "Now what was that all about??" I hissed, giving Jake a cold glare.
He shrugged. "I just wanted you to sit in my lap again and forget what's going around your mind," he said, slyly.
Ugh, guys. I shook him off and tried to get out of the bush for a millionth time. I succeeded and tried to help Jake. When we brushed off the bugs and the leaves, I found a spider on my jeans the size of my thumb. I wasn't freaked out as much. I was about to put it on the ground and let it go, when Jake stopped me. With an evil grin on his face, he took the spider and put it in one of his pencil bags in his backpack. I had no idea what was he planning to do and I didn't want to get involved in his schemes at all. Jake convinced me to try to climb the gate with him again, and we barely made it. One of the wires caught my shirt and ripped part of it off. Now there was a hole the size of an orange at the side of my shirt. Ehhh, this is cannot get anymore worse. But Jake was generous and offered me his jacket to cover up the spot. He may be obnoxious and rude sometimes, but he'll still be the caring and kind person that I grew up with. I looked around us; it was lunchtime already? Well, better late than never I guess. Jake and I blended in the crowd as we were walking to our lockers. When I was getting books for my next period class, I heard a voice. "Well well, look what the cat dragged in,"
I turned around, face-to-face with Anna. She made some new friends I see. She was grinning as if she has hit the jackpot. Anna walked toward me, pushing me back against the lockers. "So glad to see you, Sky," she greeted, coldly. "Oh, and I saw the whole scene when you and Jake were the bushes. I wonder how Mr. McTilleef is going to take it,"
I must have looked surprised and shocked because she gave a toothy grin at me and walked away with her "posse". And I thought I would have escaped Mr. McTilleef. Not this time. Jake was already gone when I turned back to my locker. Some friend he is. Can't even back up his best friend. As I was walking to my class, people were staring at me as if I was two headed blood thirsty monster. I didn't look at them in the eye and kept on walking. When I passed the office, I saw Anna. She was going to spill to Mr. McTilleef alright. But right then, Jake happened to walk up to Anna, who looked confused. Anna glared at him and turned around to talk to Mr. McTilleef. When she did that, Jake took something out of his backpack. I grinned at what was in his hand. The spider that he took away from me when we were cleaning up. Jake placed the spider in Anna's pants and slipped away quietly. I burst out laughing when Anna was screaming her head off at Mr. McTilleef, who seemed shocked at Anna's behavior. She was jumping across the office like a monkey caught on fire. I decided not to stay any longer. Anna would blame it all on me of course. Even when I was barely close to her. As I was studying chemistry, the teacher said to be with a partner for this project. I looked around the room for a partner. Unfortunately, everyone had a partner already. Except Nick. I groaned at the sight of him walking reluctantly towards me. "Umm, hi," I said, nervously.
"Uhh, yeah. Hi," he replied, putting his hands in his pockets.
We just looked at each other for a while when suddenly we were the only ones standing. "Ahem, either you youngsters sit down and go to work, or you'd rather spend time in the principal's office," suggested Mrs. Felmi, with a stern look. (Have you noticed the teachers in my school have bizarre names?)
I sighed and got down to work with... Nick. He looked at me as if I was yesterday's leftover meatloaf. I agree. My hair was tangled because of the bushes. I was sure there were a few bugs in my hair. I shrugged and said, "So what do you think we should do about this project?"
Nick spouted out so many ideas; I had to write down all of it on a piece of paper. When he was done, the whole paper was filled up. Front and back. And it was college ruled for heaven's sake! We were laughing about the times we had together. How we actually got an A for this science project of ours, even though it was just a blob of day old jelly in Nick's refrigerator. Nick and I were so absorbed in our work and talking, we didn't notice that the bell has rung. The students were getting ready for their next period class. I got up and waved bye to Nick. Nick started to waved back, but suddenly stopped. His eyes were looking at me. But it seems like it was looking past by me. I turned around. Someone was standing at the doorway. Anna. "What's this I see? First the tardies, then the spider joke in my pants. Now this? What are you doing, Sky? Trying to ruin my life?" sneered Anna, walking past me.
She walked where Nick was standing and hugged him. Nick looked stiff. Anna didn't notice though. Instead, she turned around to stare at me. "Listen twerp. If you ever lay a finger on my baby, you gonna wish you were never even born in this world," Anna hissed, pushing me down.
My head landed roughly on a desk. My head was throbbing madly. I had tears in my eyes as I struggled to get up. Nick tried to help me, but I waved him away. I stood up, and walked out of the classroom, pretending as if nothing had happened. There goes my dignity...
