In this creeping, not so inviting house that no one has lived in for many, many years, everyone always says that the third floor is haunted. This house is in a town that I used to live in called Winchester in San Jose, California. I remember this old, dull gray house a few blocks away from our home. Everyone says this scary place has a shrieking ghost and smashing, wailing, banging sounds can be heard as far as down the street.
One foggy day, on a cold morning on my way to school, I came across the haunted house that everyone always talks about. So I was curious why people were so scared of the house. After school, I wanted to go check out this “haunted house” as people say it is. When I opened the door and stepped in, I got a chill down my spine. The house smelled really moldy and disgusting like a dead rotten rat. As I was walking toward the stairs, every time I took a step you heard the floorboards creak. I crept up the stairs to the third floor and looked into each room. Nothing. I started walking back. So I proved my point that people don’t need to be scared of this house, but not exactly. Right when I turned around, I heard a loud, scratching of a fingernail coming from down the narrow hall. I got so scared I couldn’t move one muscle. As I was standing still, the streaking got nearer and nearer. I looked down the hall, there was nothing, but it was still getting louder and louder. I ran as fast as I could down the stairs, out the door, and onto the sidewalk. I guess people were right about this house!
The creepy scratching made me even more curious about the house. I didn’t even see what it was, because I was really freaked out. I really needed to do some research about this house. Why was third floor the haunted? So, after school, I went to the library to look at some old newspapers and find out articles about this house. I found a very old looking newspaper, where the pages were practically falling off. The paper was stiff and felt really rough. Every time you turn the page, you heard it crackling. While looking through, I found an article that said someone named Margaret Ford lived in the house. This was dated February 21, 1909. According to the article, Margaret died a mysterious death. No one knew why or how she died. In another article dated December 28, 1899, ten years before Margaret died. Her son had disappeared and was never found. This makes me think that she suffered the loss of her son for ten years. Maybe that’s why some people heard her wailing. Maybe she couldn’t rest in peace and that’s why she had been haunting the house.
The scariest time of year to be near the house was on Halloween. Every Halloween shadows, this only happens on October 31 every year since Margaret’s death in 1909. I wonder why this happens. Because of this, Halloween trick or treaters have avoided going near this dark and spooky house. I guess I was going to be more brave than the rest.
The day was Halloween. I put on my black shadowy robe and put black circles under my eyes with plenty of eyeliner. My costume was the never-sleeping demon. Once I put on the blood that would run down my eyes, the outfit would be complete. While I was trick or treating door-to-door, I was coming towards the house. When I finally saw that noisy kids no longer surrounded me, I decided to go into the house and see what was going on.
sorry i have to go. but i will keep on going soon!!!!
don't worry, be happy!!! 4laugh
