Citizens of Tree Hill,
Dan Scott, a man who in his darkest hour committed the darkest of evils.
He pulled the trigger that shot a bullet that would be lodged forever in the hearts of many.
He killed his brother, Keith Scott in cold blood. Nothing can change that fact or that day. It lives on forever.
But ultimately, what got him there? What made him finally pull that trigger?
Was it confusion, jealousy, regret, or self-loathing? They say those that live the hardest of lives and
learn from it wings with which to fly, soar forever in the heavens, the highest of skies.
But what of those who cannot learn and birth their own wings?
What of them?
I'll tell you, they crash and burn the hardest, taking all they once loved with them.
Dan Scott, a man who committed many evils, I believe was not evil himself.
Perhaps, he was just caught up in the allure of darkness and the ease of gain it brings.
Maybe he just lost sight of things. Maybe forgot what was it was to be good and in that forgetting lost the capacity to do so.
In life, at one time or another, we all have lost our way.
Most of us however, know virtues of perseverance and self-resolution and with these we push onward to brighter days.
But is it so crazy to think that some people have had the worst of lives pushed down upon them and under this weight, seeking freedom, they turn to darkness?
And when they turn they submit to a rushing tide and in the quickness they find themselves consumed. Is it so crazy to think that?
Everyday, if we aspire for beauty, grace, and perfection then we must live in ways that shoot for these ideals.
And if we live for these ideals and grace is apart of forgiveness then we must learn to forgive-- no matter how great the toil they have caused.
I'm not asking you to excuse all the bad this man has created and done but rather to forgive but never to forget.
Look inside your heart and do the right thing.
Forgive.
Forgive.
