I call this Shawn because I have no clue what else to call it...... also, this is a very poor attempt of a story just to pass the time...
Chapter 1: News
I yawned & slowly rubbed my heavy eyes, trying to wake up. That 70's Show was on, so I guess I fell asleep watching T.V. I slumped off the couch & trudged into the kitchen. I turned on my coffee maker & dragged myself to the freezer. I searched around & found some frozen waffles. I shrugged & took two out of the cardboard & plastic package. I then went on a hunt for my toaster.
When I finally found it & plugged it in, the phone rang. I hurridly threw the waffles in & pushed down the lever. I ran to the phone & read the caller I.D. It was my girlfriend. I smiled & pressed the talk button. "Hi, sweetie! I didn't expect you to call this early! What's up?" I asked excitedly. Dang, my voice sounded terrible, like I just woke up. Oh, wait.... I really did just wake up.... oh well.
She sounded like she had been crying. "Shawn, we need to talk, it's really important..." I started to worry. "Ella, what's wrong?" I asked, concerned. "Oh, Shawn, nothing's wrong.... at least, not yet....." I could hear a smile in her voice. "Shawn..... I hope you are ready to be a father...... I'm pregnant..."
I almost lost it. I dropped the phone, my mouth wide open. My brain went blank as I absorbed the information. "M-me?! A-A dad?!" I gaped. "Hello? HELLO? Shawn!" I heard. I looked around & realized that that noise was my phone, now on the floor. I felt my face turn red at my own stupidity as I picked the phone back up.
"Ella? I'm still here..." I almost whispered. "Shawn? Please... don't be upset... I-I know it's a lot to handle...but I really thought I'd let you know..." Ella mumbled. "Ella, can you come over today? I think it would be easier for both of us to talk in person..." I suggested. Ella agreed. "I love you, Shawn... I always will..." "I love you, too, Ella... see you soon..."
I didn't know what else to do. How did she find out so soon? Pregnancy tests? A doctor's appointment? How long has she been keeping this away from me? How big is she now? I asked myself these questions as I ate my now-burnt waffles & cold coffee.
Chapter 2: Explanations
"How did you find out?" I asked, my eyes wide. Her bump was barely noticeable, but I could feel it. She had placed my hand on it & held it there. She sighed a quiet sigh. "I went to the doctor for my sports physical & my check-up.... & I told them about my changing habits, like my cravings, the pain I've been feeling..... they ran a few tests & told me...."
She was on the verge of crying. I wrapped my other arm around her & held her close. "Don't cry... I'm not mad... actually, I'm more happy than anything..." Her eyes grew wide at me. "You are?" I let out a small laugh. "Yeah... I'm just really surprised, happy...... I'm just absorbing it all..... wow, our kid, huh? Did you find out what it is? Or is it too early for that?" She finally smiled at me, knowing that I really meant what I said.
"Oh, Shawn! I'm so happy!" She started to cry, & I knew they were happy tears. I held her tighter, but I was careful about her stomach.
