Prologue part I
Skeptical Noses
Lights of the city were blinding to her blinking eyes. The neon’s winking their hellos, car lights streaming by like blood butterflies. Buildings towering over the little lost soul, a calico cat, eyes spun with gold. Small paws pad the alleyway she calls home. The usual dilapidated, patched, and leaky box with a newspaper for bedding. The kitten for the most part was clean but her white blotched coat is still riddled with filth and debris.
Finding an upturned rubbish bin is considered a buffet of food to live for another day. That’s more or less all she could do and avoid the hurtful or pity filled stares. She was happy for the most part, no one bugged her, no other cats tried to steal from her; which confused her so. But nevertheless her heart is content, and her life heavenly.
Then as the months past in a blur of repetitive events, she noticed a change as a small bowl would appear full of small morsels of food. Delighted she was to find these little gifts once a day. But she would wonder, who? Who would treat her, a stray cat with such small messages of kindness?
She tried many times to catch this guardian angel, but she would be asleep each time the angel would come. Though when thought that once she caught her angel, well the angel’s hair colour is all she glimpsed. An odd colour of midnight blue. A colour so black yet shown blue in any presence of light.
A new light sparked in her heart, the light to find the courage, to find her angel. She so wished that if she could find this angel, that she could thank them for their kindness. But happily eating the gift would have to do for ‘thank you.’ hopefully they were heard.
