Chapter One
Well, since the only two people who read my journal liked my prologue, here's chapter one! :'D Its kind long, confusing, and blah like. Not much is happening. But oh well. You WILL enjoy! D<

And if you find the book version of my story to be boring or your just lazy to read actual words, then read it as a comic: Nabeu
[The site is going slow, for some reason....]

*Note: The comic is different from the book on some levels~

Chapter One

The sun arose on the morning of Egypt. People of the nation
were already up and about, doing their daily needs. Farmers
fed their animals while their wives and children gathered
water from the canals and prepared the morning meals. The
market place was already bustling with merchants and buyers.
Trading animals, food, and other valuable items to receive
what they wanted: Food.

Supplies for Upper Egypt were cut short. Most farms were
located at the border of Lower Egypt. Rival farmers constantly
argued and fought with each other. By law, people of Upper
Egypt can not engage in a fight with anyone of Lower. The two
nations were already at war, and no more fights were needed.
This law resulted in many burnt fields, dead farmers and their
family's, and stolen crops. This added on to the many problems
Upper Egypt had.

The servants of the Pharaoh in his palace proceeded with
the morning routine: Prepare the morning meals, feed the
horses, water the plants, do the laundry, awaken the Pharaoh,
and so much more. All the servants were forbidden to enter
the southern wing of the palace. Only Atem and special maid-
servants were allowed to enter if they had important business
to do. No one knew what resided in that wing; those who
entered that weren't allowed to, were banished to Libya, never
to return again. This made even more people curious, and also
made more enemy's to bordering country's.

Pharaoh Atem and three maidservants entered the southern
wing, the entrance heavily guarded, making sure no one entered.
The southern wing was the only way to get into the court yard.
Some members of the high classes in Egypt who resided in the
palace questioned whether or not there was a court yard. All
throughout the palace, certain windows were filled with
limestone bricks. They believed that beyond the bricked up
windows was the courtyard, along with a very big secrete.
All the evidence they had was what was in their heads, so
what they thought was what they believed about the courtyard.

The wing was meant to house his daughter, Nabeu. She was
forbidden to leave this wing under any circumstances. Nabeu was
given everything she desired; from expensive jewerly and
dresses to highly trained tutors and all the books she wanted,
no matter how difficuly it was to obtain. Though, Nabeu didn't
really want anything other than to be at her Father's side.
Atem was her only friend; being confined to only a certain
part of her large home, not allowed to have any visitors
or make friends, Nabeu was rather lonely. She looked
forward for visits her Father made everyday, every two hours
for an hour from morning to night.

Each day was always the same, Atem would awaken Nabeu
from her peaceful sleep, she'd get dressed, have her morning
meal with her Father, her first lesson would start soon after.
When she was does with what was needed to be finished first,
Nabeu was free to do what she pleased. What could she do?
There was nothing new to explore, no one to talk to, always
waiting for someone to bring her something to do, which
could take hours depending on what it was she requested. Most
of her time was spent in the courtyard, which was her special
place for Atem and herself to walk around as they talked.
Sometimes, Nabeu would help her care-takers with the
garden. Anything to keep herself busy and not just a blob of
flesh on her bed.

Pharaoh Atem came into Nabeu's bedroom, causiously of
course, just to make sure Nabeu was decent. Usually she was
still asleep when Atem made his way into the southern wing.
How he hated to awaken Nabeu everyday. For once, he just
wanted her to sleep in, not to be burdened with the tasks
of being his daughter.

Atem nodded his head to Nabeu's care-takers, singling to
do their job. one of them walking over to a window that was
covered in silk curtains and pulled them open, letting in
the early morning sunlight. This was the only window
over-looking the courtyard. Another care-taker, holding a
tray of decorated food on fine trays and plates, was standing
next to Atem. The sunlight covered Nabeu's bed, directly
hitting her face. She rolled onto her side in hopes of
escaping the bright light before she really woke up from
her sleep. No good. In one minute, Nabeu was awake. She
rubbed her left eye as she sat up from her bed. Her hair
was a mess from all the tossing and turning in her sleep.

"How can one sleep on something that's not fitting to
comfort?" Nabeu asked, her question slowly turned from
clear to confusing as a yawn pushed its way through Nabeu's
mouth. She looked over at the window, squinting her eyes
from the bright light. Her blue eyes shimmered slightly
and she moved her head towards her Father.

Atem chuckled slightly. Nabeu always made him laugh,
no matter what mood he was in. Every joke she said had
so much truth to it. The way she spoke them was what
really made him laugh, but then he would think about it.
Nabeu's knowledge and the ability to think outside the
box proved a strong key to a powerful Queen. Perhaps,
a King?

Nabeu got off her bed, allowing her caretakers to clean
it. She untied a white ribbon from her head, holding
together her hair into a bun. The strands of her long,
black, silky hair fell from its place down to the middle
of her back. Nabeu hated the thought of cutting her hair.
It was so smooth and manageable to even separate it from
her body. Atem is the same way. They both had long hair.
Silky, black hair that always glistened in the daylight.
They both had bangs that covered their eyes when not
pushed to the side. It was rare for them to even discuss
about cutting their hair, which, they did at the same
time.

The first thing to do, of everyday, on Nabeu's personal
list of things to do, was to hug her Father, and be
thankful to the Gods that he lived through to another
day. Nabeu walked over to her Father and gave him a
gentle hug. To her, Atem was old. In reality, he was
very young. In his mid 20's, and he already had a
15-year old daughter. Nabeu was taught that most young
Pharaoh's die young. So, she feared that Atem would die
very soon. This is why she wanted to spend as much
time with him as possible. Cause once he's gone, he's
gone.

"Good-Morning, Father." Nabeu said, releasing Atem
from her hug. She bowed slightly after to show
repect for him. It wasn't required for a Royal to bow
to other Royals, especially if its your Father. Normally,
it was the servants and other people on the lower class
system to bow to their superiors. Nabeu wanted to be
like the people who looked out for her and Atem, just
how Atem wants to understand his people more. This
was to prove that Nabeu could do the same thing as
everyone else, and not to worry about her social
class.

"Good-Morning, Nabeu." Atem said. "Did you rest
well?" He asked, already knowing the answer.

"As well as well can get on these beds." Nabeu
joked.

Due to the war, Atem was always stressed about
the plans the war council had come up, making sure
it would work and make sure no one would be harmed
by the plan. Unless it was a strike against the
other nation. Nabeu wanted to be the one to take
his stress away, by telling jokes to make him
laugh and to be as trouble-less as possible.

Atem patted Nabeu's head and said; "Your day
of birth is approaching. Is their anything you
wish to have?"

Nabeu thought for a moment. She wanted to
explore the rest of her home very much. To see
what the world was like outside of these walls.

"I'll give it some thought." She replied with
a smile.

"Very well." Atem said, returning a smile.
"Now then," He clapped his hands together, "Get
ready for our morning meal together. Don't want
to run off schedule, yes?" Atem added. He was
rather happy, despite the fact he was sad. Nabeu's
birthday meant the day his wife died. It was both a
good day and a bad day. He tried to make the best of
it, not wanting the memories to control his thoughts
and actions, like last time.

Nabeu nodded her head and walked over to a curtain
and stood behind it. Atem turned around, in respect
to Nabeu's privacy, even though he couldn't see
anything. Nabeu changed into a fine white, silk dress
that was strapless and reached to her knee's. The
outfit was completed with an amulate Atem gave her
last year, gold gauntlets, and anklets.

When she was done, Nabeu came out from behind the
curtain and presented herself in front of Atem, to
get his approval. He didn't want Nabeu to wear anything
that didn't go right with him. The sunlight reflected
off all the gold she was wearing to make her appearance
even more beautiful. Nabeu looked so much like Shashai;
skin so smooth, it felt like butter, her eyes to
brilliantly blue you could drown in it, a figure so
perfect she looked like a doll. Everything about her
was what her mother was like. Sometimes, Atem felt sad
just by looking at her.

"Don't forget to put your make-up on." One of the
caretakers said to Nabeu. The other held a bowl of
liquid eyeliner with a small brush dipped inside. Nabeu
sat down on her bed so her caretakers could apply her
make-up properly. They were very careful not to miss
and smudge such beautiful skin. They thought it would
be a crime to dirty such fine face. Once they were
done with their duties with Nabeu's make-up, and every-
thing else, they cleaned up after themselves, took the
laundry, bowed to their Pharaoh and Princess, and left
the room.

"Must I do this everyday, Father?" Nabeu asked,
standing up from her bed. "It's not as if I am going
somewhere." She added. It took her less then a moment
before she realized she was being a burden in some
manner. "Forget what I just said." Nabeu said, turning
her head, trying to avoid eye contact.

Atem smiled once more. "Come Nabeu, let us have our
morning meal." He said. The caretakers had already set
everything up on a table next to the window of Nabeu's
room, overlooking the courtyard. Nabeu nodded her head
and smiled.

"Let the day begin!" She said.
