Untitled Project Number One
He walked slowly down the alley, he thought about her, the way her hair looked as though it were fire in the dieing rays of the sun. He could have looked back at her, she pleaded in her mind for him to look at her just one last time, she hoped he would've looked at her the way he used to, the way that made her feel as though to him they were the only people on the planet. She waited, but he never turned, a single tear fell from eye. The thoughts of all the times long since passed were all he could see, he longed to look at her one last time, but he knew that the choice he had made was the right one. He reached the end of the alley, a few cars drove past, he took one final breath before continuing on. Her once bright green eyes now watery and sad gazed one final time upon the silouette of the man she loved, it felt like someone had ripped her heart from her chest, she felt so empty, crushed. She stood for what seemed like an eternity, some part of her kept hope that he'd come back, that he'd realize, but the more she waited the more that hope died. It wasn't a feeling she'd ever experienced, the whole world grew dimmer, devoid of all joy and happiness. She didn't know what to do, she couldn't find the power to move, he walked slowly down the sidewalk, the reality hadn't hit yet, but he knew it was coming. He tried to forget her, her smile, the way she laughed but he only remembered more and more the things about her. When it began he never doubted for a moment his choice to join the Imperial Guard, Tarkaria needed soldiers to defend it, but now the look on the face of the woman he loved, the memories, they created doubt on a scale no amount of words could describe. He remembered when the war started, when Gionia launched it's first wave, she was so afraid, he was too, but he had to conceal it, he had to protect her. It was that same drive to protect her that lead him to the Imperial Guard, if he could help to defeat the Gionians, she would be safe, she would be okay. They had talked about it, but she didn't want him to go, she didn't want him to be put in harms way, but he knew he had too. He didn't tell her when he went into the recruiters office and signed up, he didn't tell her about all the meetings with Imperial officials, he waited untill the day he was being taken to training to tell her, he thought that the short notice would make it easier, he was wrong. The bus was waiting, he had dropped all of his bags off earlier, all he had to do was sign in with the commanding officer and get on the bus. He sat in the middle, next to the window, and even as the bus pulled out of the depot all he could think about was her, despite all of his doubts there was one thing he was sure of, she would be safe, and that was all he needed. Hours had passed, she didn't really know how many, she didn't even know how she got back to their apartment, curled up in the bay window she starred with an empty expression at the city lights in the night.
