"Oh, it's nice to meet you. Uh, I'm Daniel."
Singe ate up his name and shoved it somewhere in the mess of her mind. She'd try to remember, honestly, but that was never something she could promise. Names had the tendency to elude her.
Then again, this kid was unique, not unlike the telepathic boy. This boy had eyes as wide, timid and wonderful as a newborn deer's. That was it! Exactly! That described them to a "T." She may have announced her discovery aloud, but she had no intention of scaring him off. . . . Deer are sensitive creatures. (Ha ha!)
Nah, this kid was just a shy one. As said before, the shy are unusually hard for someone like Singe to get along with on a comfortable level, but in the long run, that only makes her try harder. Daniel was taking it rather well, and she was pleased. He seemed the type she could get along with. He had a warm shyness, and he wasn't the type to give you the silent treatment, or so she hoped at this point.
For a good strong second or two, the conversation had been diverted to more relaxed, friendly things. It was an unfortunate turn for Sponge to take them on with his finishing words.
"Oh please," Sponge hissed, "shall I bring in the violins? As if I couldn’t walk a mile in your shoes."
Singe was quiet, trying to stray from that conversation however she could. She finally released Daniel's hand, realizing that she hadn't yet let it go, and had been lolling it up and down for far too long.
However, she hadn't managed to block her ears.
"Well," Sponge turned to both Daniel and herself, "I am sorry madam and sir, but I can not stay with such foolish people."
"The name's Brooke. You?"
We're goin' off tonight to kick out every light.
Take anything we want. Drink everything in sight.
We're goin' 'til the world stops turnin',
While we burn it to the ground tonight.
