[Vanerin Marquard]
Nothing cures heartaches like a good ole' round of Moonshine.

Loud, blaring orchestra music filled Vanerin Marquard's room as a cascade of sounds, suspiciously sounding like bottles being broken, effectively hid in the background.

Earlier on, she was pulled back from her fitful slumber by the incessant sounds coming from her phone. Apparently, somebody thought that it was a good idea to dial a number randomly and hang up afterward. Vanerin was too groggy to care while she blinked her eyes rapidly and stood up towards the bathroom. Her system was still screaming for more sleep so she decided to call it a day.

"To hell with everything..." she mumbled, nullifying her earlier plans to take a peek at the opening ceremony out of curiosity. She strolled leisurely towards the shower, stripping herself while warm water idly shot out from the nozzle. It pooled in rivulets around her feet as she stared blankly at the ceiling, thoughts drifting into nothingness. Her uniform was whirring happily in the automatic washer as she slipped on a delicate white silk and lace sleeping gown all the while steadily losing her inclination to snuggle back into her sheets. Maybe it was the bath that did it. She suddenly found herself with too much energy to go back to sleep so she decided to turn towards her recently favored pastime. Drinking.

The illicit affair between liquor and Vanerin started at the middle part of her training campaign against the Revenants. Very few pastimes could be done within the silent hours of waiting for the enemy which made drinking and raucous merry-making one of the top on the list. Vanerin, at first, outright refused when the other soldiers invited her to their campfire for a good ole' round of devil's brew. As time progressed, she envied the camaraderie formed during this events so she tentatively took her first sip. After that night, Vanerin Marquard became a willing accomplice to the pleasures of alcohol. The soldiers also treated her more like a friend then their commander's daughter after a couple of bonfire parties. But, what struck her the most was that her father, her in-your-face-I-am-responsible-for-everybody's-actions father, became a different man when he drank. She didn't even knew that he practiced such a hobby since she never saw him drink in front of everybody. It was only through accident that she stumbled towards him when he was drowning his sorrows in a bottle of moonshine. For once, her father talked freely and they were able to bond as father and daughter albeit it being through slurred speech and constant giggling. In the morning, her father returned to his usual austere self, but seemingly became more open to his daughter and to the world in general. Score one for alcohol.

It really was amazing how many things went inside her room for there, on a hidden trapdoor installed on the floor, lay a cache of liquor ranging from wine to plain old beer. She had secretly instructed Seymour to hide some inside her room but never expected it to be this much. She smiled happily and pawed her way through the hoard finally taking out several very large bottles labled as "Moonshine". She began to chug one down her throat. She let out a satisfied smile as she wiped her mouth the back of her hand and raided her fridge for food. Piling a stash of potato chips on her lavender-scented blanket, she tied its edges together and securely placed it around her waist after downing another gulp of her drink. Her blanket threatened to rip and spill with chips and bottles as she opened her window and jimmied herself up towards the rooftop. Earlier experience seemed to have convinced her that this was the best place to imbibe yourself on the first day of school, so up she went as the jolly sound of alcohol swished around the bottle. Upon reaching a comfortable spot, she spread the blanket out, looking very much like a little girl out on a picnic. With a sigh of happiness, she stared at the sun about to make its descent. Her right hand clutched her heart in joy as her right hand reached out for her precious Moonshine.
