Behind a Closed Door (non-rhyming poem)
It's funny that I notice now
I prefer light in the dark and shade in the light;
I feel secure behind a blocked door that I can open at will,
With no worries on what lies on the other side;
I know I'm different from others in many ways,
And can be very unpredictable.
Still,
Most people agree that I am the light in the dark,
A faint glow of hope;
A candle of warmth for those cold, winter nights;
When they say that, I must think back
To what I first said.
Though it's all true, maybe the door is really a barrier
Keeping me from becoming who I really am, keeping me locked inside
A door I could always open.
