As a young man or woman living in the 21st century, you know the demands can be high, and expectations even higher. The media delivers an endless stream of messages that tell you how to look, how to behave, how to eat, and how to dress. The media's expectations are impossible to meet--God's are not. God doesn't expect you to be perfect... And neither should you.
Remember: The expectations that really matter are God's expectations. Everything else takes a back seat. So do your best to please God, and don't worry too much about what other people think. And, when it comes to meeting the unrealistic expectations of a world gone nuts, forget about trying to be perfect--it's impossible.
When God made you, He equipped you with an array of talents and abilities that are uniquely yours. It's up to you to discover those talents and to use them, but sometimes your own perfectionism may get in the way.
If you're your own critic, give it up. After all, God doesn't expect you to be perfect, and if that's okay with Him, then it should be okay with you, too.
Thoughts For Today.
When we are set free from the bondage of pleasing others, when we are free from currying others' favor and others' approval--then no one will be able to make us miserable or dissatisfied. And then, if we know we have pleased God, contentment will be our consolation.
What makes a Christian a Christian is not perfection but forgiveness.

Strive for excellence, not perfection. There will be plenty of time for perfection in the world to come.
A Prayer For Today.
Lord, this world has so many expectations of me, but today I will not seek to meet the world's expectations; I will do my best to meet Your expectations. I will make you my ultimate priority, Lord, by serving You, by praising You, by loving You, and by obeying You. Amen.
A Verse For Today.
Those who wait for perfect weather will never plant seeds; those who look at every cloud will never harvest crops. Plant early in the morning, and work until evening, because you don't know if this or that will succeed. They might both do well.
