Today I observed an average American family at a sports bar me and my friends frequent weekly for the good food offered there. There was a man, probably in his 40's and a woman maybe in her 30's. Their kids were a daughter probably around 14 and a son closer to 10 or 12. All of them were wearing matching jerseys and hats of their favorite college football team and their eyes were glued on the screen. They seemed nice and happy enough....when their team was winning. When they began to lose, the mood soured a bit. Soon, they were spouting angry words demeaning the other team. The father leaned in to tell his 10 or 12 year old son what "cheating whores" they were. The other team, within the last two minutes, created a far lead, causing the family to become more agitated. Tensions finally exploded. I hear the father say: "Let's get out of here." This signaled the family to leave, which included the spilling of their drinks WITHOUT even THINKING of cleaning up after themselves. The daughter, who was crying (because her favorite football team lost a game? GET OVER IT!!), knocked over her chair and forgot her jacket. After the visibly furious father came back in to retrieve the jacket, I took it upon myself to keep their mess from dripping onto the floor using some napkins and sat back down with my friends who were laughing hysterically at the spectacle the family made of themselves. We then noticed the once busy sports bar had grown incredibly quiet, as almost 75% of it's customers had left because their football team had lost. This is why other countries laugh at us.
