hooo I haven't made an entry for quite a while. Well I have had some stuff to write about, nothing especially exciting, but its stuff that I document nonetheless.
We'll start with bertie's first birthday, which was yesterday. I made him a cake. It was a vanilla sponge, sandwiched together with raspberry jam. Then I topped it with vanilla yoghurt and studded the egde with blueberries. I made a big "B" in the middle of the cake with jam, too. We were going to eat it in the morning, but my mum's appraisal was at 9 instead of 3, which is when she thought it was happening. So she had to rush off all of a sudden when she was phoned up an summoned at half 9. She got back in the afternoon and said everything had gone well so we went to temple newsam for bertie. He loved the animals, it was really sweet. There were lambs and piglets and chicks and calfs. The piglets and lambs were allowed to escape from their enclosures so they were running about the courtyard, which really excitied bertie. He also like chasing the chickens and looking at the small rodenty things. We went to the house before the farm because bertie was asleep. I want to live in a house like that emo Not necessarily that big, but with that decor ; n; +nice garden, grounds etc. But I'd settle for just wallpaper and gilt mirrors and stuff.
Bertie still can't walk very well.....he's been on the cusp of walking for ages now, he can take wobbly steps but....he keeps on falling over all the time. Funny little thing.
Okay, other stuff that's been happening.... Well it was mum's birthday on sunday. I made her a cake also. It was a rich squidgy chocolate cake with chocolate on top. The cake also had ground almonds in it, was soaked in a syrup when it came out and was coated with plum jam before I put the cocolate coating on. I made milk chocolate...swirly patterns around the edge too C: We didn't do anything for mum's birthday though, I went to pudsey to do some bag packing for KENYA. Actually, they went to manchester so she got to see some people on her birthday.
I've been doing quite a lot of baking durign these holidays. As well as the two cakes prior mentioned, I made....millionaire's shortbread, chocolate-chocolate and raisin flapjacks and a meringue-y cake thing.... The meringue....gateaux, let's call it, had two tiers. Each tier was compromised of a thin layer of chocolate sponge, almond meringue and had flaked almond poked down between the sides of the unbakes mixtures and the paper lining. WE DID NOT HAVE FLAKED ALMONDS. So I flaked whole almonds all by myself, to interesting effect. JUST LIKE WE DID NOT HAVE ENOUGH GROUND ALMONDS FOR MUM'S CAKE, and I had to grind up whole almonds for that..... Anyway. They were cooked and I made some caramel. I layered sliced bananas and caramel on one cake and, with great difficulty, put the other cake on top (delicate merigue, paper on the underside, lack of decent fish slice etc) But I managed and it looked splendid, even if I do say so myself C:
And today I made some big chocolate muffins with soft chocolate centres.
*fanfarefanfare* The other day I saw the one and only miss loughran in superdrug. She had her little baby with her, who was asleep. She said she is coming back in....june? July? One of the "J" months. Probably june. We talked for a bit, then went our separate ways...
Hmm, is that everything? I think so, I think that's everything.
