[Start from Chapter one!]
Chapter 6
I woke up in pitch black, definitely not something I was used to. I looked around the dark room, making sure that Maya was still sleeping and whispered a sleeping spell on her, making sure that she wouldn’t wake up until at least mid day. It would give her a bad migraine when she woke up… but hopefully that would only give me more time. Neva quickly fluttered to my side, giving me light to see in the dark and allowing me to get ready for my long walk that I had ahead of me, a journey of sorts that I always knew I wanted, or maybe had to do.

Neva and I headed outside of the bedroom, tip toeing quietly. I grabbed my cloak and put it over my head, wrapping it tightly around my body. Why it had to be winter, I don’t know. I opened the hut door and groaned, rubbing my eyes with my thumb and pointer finger. It had to be at least minus 10 degrees right about now. Neva flew in front of me, to light my path so I could see where I was stepping. This is going to be a hell of a long walk.

I rubbed my nose with my finger for the millionth time since I left the hut. It felt like I had been walking for hours. The sky was still dark out, with no sunrise in sight, and I swear I had a cold from walking in this damn weather. Neva and I haven’t said anything too each other since our journey began, but it didn’t bother either of us, it was too cold to get conversation going and keep it up. Why I decided to go on this journey I’m not quite entirely sure. I mean the reason I want to go through with this is because I want to save mom... Yeah, I’m going to the Dark Lord’s castle. Smart, huh? Well, something about that guy that I met made me want to save mom more than anything. Just hearing that mom was alive sparked something inside of me I guess you could say. I always wanted to go and save mom and bring her back to make our family normal again, whatever normal was, but I guess I never had the guts to do so since I didn’t know if mom was alive. Something about that guy was strange too. He didn’t try to capture me and he didn’t seem to be mean or rude, just downright cocky which wasn’t really much of a crime. The weirdest thing was that he also had the same butterfly that I do or at least I think so. I looked up at the sky again and sighed. It had to be so god damn early didn’t it?

Neva and I walked for what felt like hours and my feet were now completely numb. Now that I mention it, my whole body was freakishly numb and Neva must be in a pretty bad shape too. I stared at her, not that my eyes ever came off her really, and it was easy to tell that she was having a difficult time flying too.

“Neva, want to take a break?” I asked. She squeaked in response and I shook my head.

“Okay fine, let me rephrase that. Neva, we’re taking a break. You’re freezing cold,” I said and used my hands to spot out a tree that we could rest under.

I sat down under the tree and let out a loud sigh. It felt nice to sit down. Neva quickly flew under my hood, trying to absorb the heat that came from my head.

“See? You were cold.” I giggled and took her out of my hood to hold her in my cloak. Surprisingly enough, this cloak was very warm after wearing it for what felt like several hours.

I hummed to myself, as Neva was now asleep in my hands. I looked up at the sky and began to notice that the sun was slowly beginning to rise, meaning that I would be able to walk while Neva slept. I’m really grateful that Neva was in with me doing this. If it wasn’t for her my whole plan would have fallen through because I can’t see when I don’t have light. I cuddled her softly and gently placed her back on the top of my head and stood up to begin walking again. It wasn’t totally bright out, but it was light enough for me to make out the shapes of trees and bushes so now I wouldn’t run into things. As I walked, the sun rays increased warming me up ever the slightest which was much better than being completely numb. I pulled my cloak tighter around my body and stared at my breath that made a cloud of warm air against the cold air.

The sun was finally fully up and I pulled my hood off my head, placing Neva carefully into my little bag. I began to walk faster as I could see the mountain path coming up just up a head, but slowed down when I noticed that warrior from the market place that gave us the gold bar for helping him. I stared at him as we both walked in our opposite directions, he seemed to look confused why I was in the woods alone but before he could come up to me to ask questions, I sprinted up the path and out of his sight.

I came to a stop to catch my breath and I rested my hands on my knees. My sprinting woke Neva up, as she came fluttering out of my bag and flew into my face.

“Good morning to you too,” I laughed and picked her off my face and placed her on my head. She squeaked at me, saying that she was cold.

I rolled my eyes and let out a chuckle. “You think you’re cold? I’m freezing!” I suddenly felt my foot catch onto a root, and before I knew it my face was smacked into the cold snow.

“Hey, no need to bow to me,” I heard a deep voice in the distance mock me.

I used my hands to push myself off the snow, and I looked in front of me to only be faced with that jerk from yesterday.

“Not you again,” I groaned quietly dusting the snow off my cloak.

“What? Didn’t you miss me?” he teased and I glared at him.

“What?! Aren’t you supposed to be blind?” He asked me and I took a couple steps back.

“Why do you care?” I shot back, bringing my hands to my eyes.

“I was just curious,” he said casually, though it sounded like there was more to it but I certainly wasn’t going to push it.

He stared at me and I pulled my cloak tight around my body, feeling uncomfortable from the stare.

“You’re kinda pretty,” he said and I felt my face get hot but before I could reply Neva flew to the other butterfly and they began flying around each other.

“Neva!” “Kai!” We yelled at the same time and the guy grinned and I bit my lower lip.
“Neva, please come back here,” I said quietly. She squeaked in protest and I sighed.

“Well, looks like we’ll be stuck here a while,” the black suited guy smiled.

Honestly, this wasn’t too good. As much as Neva wanted to stay, I wanted to leave. I walked to a tree, leaning on it as Neva and Kai fluttered around each other, obviously having some chemistry going on. I looked back to the guy.

“Try any funny business and I’ll leave and take Neva with me,” I said bitterly.

“Funny business? Like this?” He quickly sprinted up to me so that he was half a step away from me, attempting to grab my hand.

I felt my throat hitch and I pulled my hand away and instead he grabbed my waist, bringing our bodies together. He put a blade up to my neck, smirking.

“Well, now that I have you in my arms, got anything to say?” he grinned and I slapped his cheek, pushing him away from me.

“Get away from me!” I put my hand to my neck where his blade made a shallow cut and looked at my hand. Blood.

I began to run from the guy before he’d have the chance to kill me, though I could hear his heavy footsteps following close behind.

“Wait! Don’t run!” I heard him call but I ignored him, there was no way I was going to let him kill me.

I felt my heart beat heavily in my chest and I was already short of breath, which was weird for me. I brought my hand up to my neck again, everything suddenly began to get darker and I came to a stop, and fell to my knees unwillingly. My body began to go numb and now I couldn’t see anything. What was happening?

“What did you do to me?” I muttered as I felt the guy’s hand rest on my back. He said something in my ear, but I couldn’t quite make it out because my world fell into darkness.
