Just gonna put this out there for everybody who doesn't know; I'm a HUGE comic book geek. Like freaking, waited in line to get his copy of Scott Pilgrim's Finest Hour the night it came out, huge comic book geek. Next on my agenda is to tell you why Scott Pilgrim Vs The World is such and AMAZING movie.
Ever since I found out that it would be made into a movie, I dreaded what would happen to the Scott Pilgrim series. As an indie comic, the series already received an unprecedented amount of attention but it's quirkiness was still able to shine through the hoards of fad-hoppers that were just looking for the next big thing. The movie, thank whatever deity I believe in, retains that same amazing sparkly, polished, humor. From the game jokes to the band name-drops and the subtle references, Scott Pilgrim Vs The World was everything I had hoped for a movie recreation of the comic to be.
Aside from crappy actors and a bad story the thing that ruins movies for me the most often is piss-poor soundtracks but I'll gleefully relay that the soundtrack for Scott Pilgrim was nothing short of mind blowing. The eight and sixteen bit music that played throughout was expertly tracked and the rock was, well... rockin. For every doubt I may have had about this movie I was pleasantly surprised.
Though it deviated from the comic near the end, Scott Pilgrim Vs The World holds its own against the slurry and runoff that comic book movies have become; G.I. Joe and Spiderman just to name a few. It never lost the sense of freshness that the comic book had for me and I'm going to go ahead and say that it was a better comic book based movie than the recent Kick-a**.
I don't think it could be more obvious at this point but if you still have your doubts let me spell it out for you as well as I can: Scott Pilgrim Vs The World is a great movie. It's not as good as the comic book was, but then again, nothing is ever as good as the original. You+Scott Pilgrim Vs The World=Happy.
