The Maxwell House Part 18 Once Upon a Time
(Diana)
I once had a dream. In that dream I could fly. The sun shined so brightly on my face. For once I was happy, happier than I ever had been before. I remember hating the feeling. The floating feeling was so unnatural to me, the feeling sickened me. I wanted to kill something, this was no dream I would ever wish upon myself. I was in my own hell. Then I woke up…
Diana stared blankly out at the stars that filled the sky. She never understood why there were so many. She didn’t really care enough to acknowledge their existence past the fact that they were stars. She did not find the stars beautiful of worth wishing on. Diana found no point in wishing just as she found no point in a human life.
I once had a thought about the stars. This particular thought kept me up all night. I wondered if the stars were really the spirits of the dead watching over us, like a villager I killed years ago told me… This thought annoyed me the entire night. Of course the stars are simply balls of gas. Diana thought, still staring blankly at the sky.
Diana hopped down from the top branches of the tree she was in. She landed silently in on the brush covered forest floor. The new moon made the forest appear much darker than normal. Diana’s eyes were adjusted perfect to the near pitch black scene, she could see everything. The quiet, almost untraceable sound of rustling leaves caught Diana’s attention. She fell into a low crouch and waited for another sound. The sound of more rustling sent Diana into action.
A Graceful hunter, Diana has always caught whatever she set her sights on. Whether it be mice, deer, or humans she always got what she wanted in the end. Diana sat on the ground holding a rabbit up to her mouth. She drank silently, once again starring at nothing. When she dropped the rabbit she only have one drop of blood on her chin. She didn’t move or bother to wipe off the blood.
I once imagined it was summer and it was hot outside. My face felt like it was on fire. Everything was burning. No matter how near I got to the flames I never grew warmer. It was a beautiful image, the destruction the fire caused. I never wanted to leave that little daydream… When I opened my eyes I was back in that house, with Holly’s stupid brown eyes staring at me. Holly and Zack are such an annoyance, they are like two bunnies in the spring time...
Deep in thought, Diana closed her eyes. The wind blew her hair back gently as she sat there unmoving. Silence filled the forest with an uneasy feeling. The wind stopped blowing and stillness completely ensued across the forest. Nothing moved or made a sound. In an instant Diana opened her eyes and wiped the blood from her chin. She stood up and smiled. Her eyes flashed mischievously.
“I just had a thought!” She said out loud. “What if there is a point to human life?! What if the point of a human life is to entertain me when I take it away?” She said sounding genuinely amazed.
Before leaving the forest to interrupt whatever Holly was doing to share her epiphany, Diana had one final thought. This final thought made her smile one rare, bright smile. The thought made her heart grow a degree colder and made her feel all the more twisted inside
Once upon a time, I destroyed everything I ever cared about…
