Today was the much anticipated (by me, at least) opening of HEART, a community centre on the site of my old primary school. I was very glad when I heard several years ago that there was a plan to use the old building as a community centre. It would have a cafe, area for business and be a venue for various classes and generally community enriching activities. This sounded like a fitting use for the building of the ex-school, which had a long history, rather than converting it into flats or something like that.
And today was the grand opening! There were quite a lot of old headingley parents and some old pupils to see, as well as Joy who worked at NLCN. It was quire surreal walking around the building, seeing which parts were new and which parts were as I remembered them. There was a...history of the school thing in the headmaster's office. I looked through photo albums and booklet about the school. It made me even more proud to have been a part of the school, it really was a nice place. It's such a shame that Mr. Sheldrick left and the school closed, after so many years.
There's going to be a creche, that's why joy was there, and a nice cafe with homemade cakes and the likes. So I think we'll be frequenting heart in the future C:
